On last night’s show, he played back the quote and said he wasn’t going to retract anything because it was obvious the statement was “in jest.”

If you know Bill O’Reilly and if you saw the whole segment, you would know that he was speaking tongue-in-cheek or facetiously.
That’s what he said on the radio last night.

I still find him very abrasive though & can’t say that I’d care to know him.

He’s *CATHOLIC?!?!? *
Hey, guys, lighten up. There are NEWS programs and then there are OPINION programs. O’Reilly is one of the latter. When we lose the ability to jest and laugh, we lose the ability to think for ourselves.

I’m all for laughter and jesting. But some things simply aren’t funny. In fact, the best humor tends to be when one reveals something about himself and allows you to laugh at him, opening people up to recognize their own fallenness also; and thus uniting humanity, rather than merely making someone else the brunt of a joke in taking a cheap and easy shot. So maybe O’Reilley needs to stick to political commentary and leave the comedy to somebody who’s better at it.

He of all people rants and raves about other countries’ anti american sentiments… does he realize he helps add fuel to the fire with statements such as this?

From the September 14 broadcast of Westwood One’s The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly:

O’REILLY: Bush to address the U.N., says we must be steadfast in battling terrorism. I’m sure all the U.N. people fell asleep. They don’t really care about anything over there at all. I just wish Katrina had only hit the United Nations building, nothing else, just had flooded them out. And I wouldn’t have rescued them

Audio of this statement can be heard here:

Don’t worry about it - God loves jerks, even if we don’t 🙂

… depends on your definition of funny. I find Rush’s humor much funnier, even though it is also quite biting.

I find Mr. O’Reilly’s opinions offensive in general, and that he has a seriously flawed misunderstanding of the faith he purports to represent.
