I have read that Origen was castrated. Isn’t that mutilation? He studied under a very good teacher but he was excommunicated right? Did he ever reconcile?

If you’ve not read the account of Origen’s life and Origenism in the Catholic Encyclopedia, this link might answer some questions

God bless you

Self-castration would be mutilation, but we only have the word, true or false, of others, that Origen did so. Eusebuis alleged that he castrated himself, but this allegation isn’t proven. Origen did endure much calumny, so we can only consider this as uncertain.

Encyclopedia Britannica:

As you may not in the Catholic Encyclopedia, Origin’s opinion of recantation was:
“he who holds a certain opinion ought not to feign recantation, or publicly disown it.”
He was sincere in his beliefs, and God knowing him, alone could judge his soul’s state before Him and at time of death. I have not found a verifiable record that Origen recanted any of his beliefs before death
