Origin of the Infancy Gospel of Luke: Did Mary told Luke the Birth of Jesus?

Anyone know how Luke learn of the infancy account of Jesus? Do you think Paul told him, or did Mary told him? Since there were no Apostle present at the Jesus infancy, except Mary. Joseph, the step father was already dead. So who told Luke his Jesus’ birth? I assume Mary, the Mother of Our Lord told him.

Luke Timmothy Johnson makes this argument in his book “The Creed.” I do not recommend the book, but I thought this argument was intriguing.
 
He’s a prof at Emory. Supposedly a Catholic, but he denies Papal infallibility and seems to deny the virgin birth and the Real Presence.

How about any early reference perhaps Church doctors?
 
Luke was one of the Closest one’s to Mary, so either he got his information from Mary herself, or from St. John our theological Gospel writer.
 
Manny, my understanding has always been that Mary did indeed tell Luke the story.
Isn’t there an ikon of her that is supposed to have been painted by Luke?? It may have been done from life, then!! That would be exciting to know; I would love to own such a portrait!!👍

You can Zooey - it’s Our Lady of Czestochowa, I’m sure you can find a print of it round about somewhere.
