Orthodox Churches

First of all, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this.

Second, what exactly is the case for the Catholic Church and the case for the Orthodox Church as far as having the Patriarchs be equals over having the Bishop of Rome as the supreme ruler of the Church? As best I can tell, this is the primary difference, right?
 
More subtle than that.

Orthodox do not deny the Petrine Ministry of the Pope. But Orthodox do not agree with Rome about the nature and limits of this ministry.

Books have been written about this subject; it’s too complex for computer chat.
 
As pointed out, this topic is both subtle and huge.

There are cultural issues, geographic issues, historical issues, and a few theological issues thrown in for good measure.

In a nutshell, the Orthodox see the Bible as having an Apostolic Church Heirarchy. Catholics do as well. Orthodox see Peter as having a special role, Catholics do as well. Orthodox do not see him as Leader but first among equals. Further, Orthodox tend to see the Church structure in the Bible as more self contained where each patriarch governs his own flock but they work together in matters of theology.

I hope I got that right from the Orthodox point of view.

It also resembles many Anglo-Catholics views.

It should. Many of the Anglo-Catholic views have the same basis in history. What the Orthodox have that the Anglo-Catholics do not is actual primacy of history itself: Peter founded the Church at Antioch and so on. No Church in England can claim to have been founded by an Apostle.

I think I get the basics now. Does anyone happen to know of a good book about it to read (one that presents both arguments, is well researched, etc.)?

We have quite a few posters on here who are better able to answer that, but many of them may not pop up until after Easter. Be sure to bump this thread back up over the next few days.

Personally, I read websites with both positions, but I did the research as to which ones myself.

Read the book THE ORTHODOX CHURCH by Timothy Ware (now Metropolitan Kallistos).
