I was driving home last night from my parish’s Outdoor Stations of the Cross, and I drove past the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. They had candles lit all around the church, and they were about to process around the church. What was going on?

Thanks! So they would have been processing with the epitaphios, according to Wikipedia.

Oh, the Archbishop of Chicago video was very moving. He had a wonderful voice, and the chant was very moving.

Go back at midnight tonight and watch the procession as they look for the body of Christ and listen as the bells ring in the joy of the Resurrection…

“Unfortunately” 😉 I’ll be at Holy Rosary parish for the Easter Vigil tonight, and I’ll probably stay after to celebrate and to congratualate the catechumans and candidates, so I may not be able to drive past the Cathedral in time. Oh well. One of these days I’ll have to go to an Eastern Rite church for the Divine Liturgy.

It was pouring here during Vespers. Father was considering a Plan B for the 12 Gospels. By the start of Matins the rain had stopped and we processed without a drop of rain 👍

Chances are good you could have done both. 🙂 I went to the Latin Easter Vigil with our elect and then headed 45 mins away to 11:30 Readings from Acts, Midnight Matins, Divine Liturgy.

During the Paschal season there are likely to be additional vespers services you could go to. The Cathedral, and an Eastern Catholic Church, may actually have daily vespers all year. Small parishes don’t but will during festal times. They’re beautiful and do not include Holy Eucharist. Anyway, whether or not your Greek Orthodox Cathedral has vespers year round this is a wonderful time now to go. Bring a head covering and wear a dress, and comfortable shoes for standing although my experience here with Greek Orthodox at their Cathedral is there aren’t many heads covered and there are pews. And this Cathedral the readings are usually done a second time in English, but everything is always done in Greek. Christos anesti!
