So does anything happen to the bread and the wine?I view myself as following Jesus’ command to comemorate His self-sacrifice for the sake of The Truth in this manner.

If you know that you should be able to name the bishop.
Or at least the temple.
Or perhaps you recognize that Orthodox are truly Catholic in every sense.
Good for you.
Yes. It was the choice I made in my journey from Catholicism to Holy Orthodoxy.but look for truth, not aesthetic beauty. Seek God’s will first This was a choice I had to make over and over in my journey to Catholicism.
I have to say i agree with you; when i lived in europe, i was absolutely BLOWN away by the Cologne cathedral. It is simply the most magnificent acheivement of gothic architecture. It is impossible to understand just how massive it is. And in this day and age of skyscrapers, it is so beautiful to see a Cathedral towering over a city.Saw this thread, and just had to post pictures of a cathedral I fell in love with. It’s the cathedral of Cologne, Germany. Pictures don’t do it justice. It’s so beautiful and breathtaking, and just… huge. You feel so insignificant next to it. It even had repairs being done to it when I went, and still, didn’t even come close to diminishing its beauty.

If that’s what you think, bloom where you are planted.
You would not fit in with Holy orthodoxy.
I suggest that you get as involved as possible in your church and try to be a positive influence in regard to those externals you seem to value.

I have just come on this thread and seen the OP and before reading on I wish to make a comment.this post is meant to be provocative and debateable and I highly encourage you to try and prove me wrong (I’d love to be wrong).
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the EO Church. I came really close to want to join actually but the papacy holds me back.
I look at the EO and think to myself "nicer vestments, way nicer churches, the priests ALWAYS were their clerical garb (unlike ours who wear ‘street clothes’), nicer music, nicer symbolism, more ‘heavenly’ liturgy etc.
Here are some pictures to prove it:

Catholic (even eastern Catholic) monestaries pale in comparison to the beauty and location of most Orthodox monestaries:

St. Catherines, Sinai:

Need I mention the fact that the EO has almost all of the great holy sites like the Holy Sepulchre, tomb of Mary, Nativity etc.
The only thing is I have some theological love of the Latin Catholic church- the filoque for example. I also like the use of uleavened bread as Jesus used. can someone pls. try and convince me that these ‘externals’ are actually better in the Latin Catholic Church, or at least in the Eastern catholic Church.
Thanks!
Wrong, wrong and wrong.I have just come on this thread and seen the OP and before reading on I wish to make a comment.
I am surprised that the ceremonial aspects of the Orthodox is more important to you than the fact that Christ clearly teaches that all Churches must be in union with the Church led by Peter and his successors. It is clear from history that the Orthodox Churches broke from Rome more for political reasons than for anything else in 1054. Ceremonial can be a smoke screen between us and God and we should all be thankful for Vatican II which got rid of a lot of barnacles on the Barque of Peter. The Orthodox Churches are all national Churches - their growth is slow, shrinking or non-existent. The Apostolic Fathers stressed that to be cut off from Rome is to put your faith in jeopardy.![]()
It is a great pity that the Orthodox Church is separated from Rome.Wrong, wrong and wrong.
The See of Rome broke with Holy Orthodoxy. Too bad for Rome.
All legitimate bishops are successors of Peter, John and the other Apostles, the bishop of Rome has no monopoly on that. The east is chock full of Apostolic Sees.
You don’t think that the USCCB, the CBCEW and the CCCB are national churches? These are essentially a pale imitation of the ancient church structure of synods still in place in the Orthodox Communion! It is the original legitimate ecclesiology of the church. Having National Bishops Conferences, or Synods, is not a sign of disunity.
To be cut off from Truth is to put one’s faith in jeopardy.
