Actually, he is in the line of apostles (St John), and ie Luke wasn’t an apostle but the student of one, along with Mark. But it was much later I suppose.

My point was that not all things are considered Scripture. Some things can be true and describe true events in the lives of holy people yet not be Scripture.

I think Luke is a good example of someone (unlike this infancy writer) who apparently did learn things from Mary (according to tradition). Not to mention Paul and others. So that’s why he still has so much canonical status.

Makes me want to see that movie now. 😃
 
The Protoevangelium of James is Apocryphal, meaning it is not part of the canon, but is deemed to have partial truth to it.

It’s not “rejected”; it simply didn’t make the canon.

The canon is composed of works that were used in liturgy by about Nicea.

Of the others, some are rejected, and others are not (but not canonical)

The Protoevangelium is widely but not universally accepted as divinely inspired, but not authoritative as the books in the canon.

It is the source of much/most of what we know/believe/think about Mary.
