My brother and his family are moving to the Atlanta area (Marietta specifically) in the near future. Can anyone recommend some solid orthoxdox parishes in the Marietta area? I checked the Archdiocese website but the 3-4 parishes I saw seemed pretty “modernist” from their websites.

What’s do you mean by “modernist?”

A parish would be rock-solid orthodox and “modernist” too at the same time depending on how you define “modernist.”

A relative of mine (now sadly deceased) lived in Park Place, so when we visited, I always went across the street to the Cathedral for Mass. I was always very very pleased with the Masses there. They seemed to be quite orthodox, traditional, and as close to the spirit of Vatican II as any other parish. It’s definately worth a try.

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter has a parish, I think St. Frances de Sales, near the Atlanta Airport.

I have friends who attend it. Gerry Matatics and family attended it . ( A Catholic apologist and former seminary classmate of Scott Hahn).

A German friend visited and reported that the Amis sang with great enthusiasm the parts of the Mass in Gregorian chant.

I read that the choir director is a composer and veteran of many concerts playing his instrument. (I can’t remember which one.)

The parish is not near the airport; it is in Mableton, in Cobb County, which is the same county in which Marietta is located.

The organist is Richard Morris, an accomplished organist and the organist in residence at Spivey Concert Hall.

The church building is currently under renovation (and definitely not wreckovation). Masses (including the Sunday 11:30AM Solemn High Mass) are being held in the gym behind the church bulding.

“Modernist” may not be the best term but what I’m referring to in general is church in the round, the only music played is from Haugen/Haas/Schutte, fluffy homilies, etc.

Thanks to everyone who has offerred suggestions so far.
