How do I go about finding a orthodox parish? It seems ones that I have visited tend to be liberal. I can’t really just go through the yellow pages calling and asking. I’m not sure calling the diocese would be best either.

A lot of it is through word of mouth. There are people on these boards from all over the USA and in several different countries, and they are a great resource.

You don’t have to tell us exactly where you live (in fact, please don’t for your safety), but if you give a general area (like metro Detroit, or rural southwestern Wyoming, or the island of Oahu), we might be able to give some suggestions.

Asking people on here that live in your area would be a good start.

Another thing to think about is, what degree of liberal you can live with? There are some churches that do things that appear liberal, but are still “by the book”. Other churches do things that are not only illicit but make the Mass invalid. You will find churches everywhere in between.

The best thing to do is look around, go to a few Masses at each church. Some churches may have multiple priests with varying degrees of liberalism and conservatism.

The last pastor of my church was very liberal, but the other 2 priests at the church were conservative and would not participate in any abuses. If you only saw the pastor’s Masses you would think the church was liberal, but if you saw the other 2 priests you would think differently. Luckily that pastor has moved to another parish and a more conservative pastor took over.

The four marks of the Catholic Church are: It’s One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic. Using labels: Liberal, Orthodox, Traditional do not help. It gives aid to the evil one. Try to work within your parish for these four marks.

May God bless you,

See if you can find a local homeschool group. They’ll probably be able to point you in the right directon.

I would be looking in Northeast Wisconsin.

These priests are guaranteed to be orthodx, true Catholic priests. They are Catholic and have the blessing of Pope John Paul II. They have a chapel in Green Bay and a church in Wausau.

Since someone mentioned it, I would be deeply appreciative if someone could recommend a good, orthodox parish church (loyal to Magisterium; not SSPX) in the northeast Georgia area. I’m interested in a liturgy that is solid. I’m not going to get extremely rigid about musical styles (I love the Lifeteen masses and all kinds of Christian music, for instance, although I’d be so happy to find Gregorian chant and lots of Latin I think I’d cry!) What’s important to me is the intention of the priests and RCIA directors to be loyal to the Church. I could go from church to church searching, but it could take a really long time, and I’m already suffering from depression. I’m open to suggestions about Atlanta-area churches if absolutely necessary, but I’m really too far away from Atlanta–I’m hoping for something a little closer.

Please help if you can…I’m in a spiritual desert here…
