Orthodox priest debates Atheist

Fr. Hans Jacobse (Orthodox Christian priest of Ft. Myers, FL) debate with Matt Dillahunty (head of atheist group in Texas). I personally know Fr. Hans and he is a wonderful priest and pastor.

It’s a debate in 9 parts (I’m on part 3 right now). The whole premise from the atheist perspective is that there can be morality outside of the existence of God. What do you all think?

I agree with the atheist perspective. An atheist can have morals, some are pro life, some abstain, and many more things. The difference is that an atheist creates their own morals, not following any God given morals.

All people have morals, its who shapes them thats important.

But at the same time, doesn’t all morality come from GOD?

I believe he meant where does objective morality come from (and possibly, does it exist). There are 2 positions the atheist could be defending:
  1. Morality is subjective
  2. Objective morality is explainable by contemporary neuroscience (Sam Harris approach, as I call it)
Either way, looks nice, I’ll have to look at the videos.
