Can someone explain it?
The Eastern principle of Economy (rather than just Orthodox, as it’s present throughout the Christian East):

It’s the bending or relaxing of the rules for good reason.

There are times when the standards must be lowered for specific individuals for a time for the good of their souls; mainly, to present them with an attainable goal when the scriptural, canonical, or traditional standard is beyond their present ability.

Likewise, there are times when it is sufficient to accept the questionable as valid for the good of souls, trusting to the Mercy of God to cover for the doubts. This application is usually applied to baptism, tho also to ordinations and chrismation in some cases.

The opposite is akriveia, or strict adherence.

The equivalent in the West would be dispensation. As priests and bishops may be able to dispense you from Canonical Law, such as the Sunday Obligation or marriage in the Church. Although dispensation is clear that you can only dispensed from Canon Law, not Divine Law.
