The Catholic Church believes the Orthodox have valid sacraments but the Orthodox do not believe so about the Catholic Church. Is that correct?

If the Orthodox, according o the Catholic, have valid sacraments, what is the point of being Catholic? (from a Catholic point of view)

Thanks.

Christ prayed that we would all be one.

Disunity and schism are bad things.

While the sacraments are valid, the disunity wounds the Body of Christ.

Yes. They have valid Sacraments because they have a valid Priesthood.

The point of being Catholic is having the Fullness of Truth. This Fullness of Truth is only found in the Catholic Church which is the only Church founded personally by Jesus Christ with His Promise that the “gates of hell will never prevail” over His Church which is “guided in all truth” by the Holy Spirit. And it is the only Church in existence today that continues to Teach ALL of the Truths taught by Jesus Christ.

Over the last 1,000 years many Christians have broken away from the Catholic Church by rejecting her authority and teachings and the Orthodox Churches that are in existence today were the first historically to break away. Christians born into the Orthodox Churches are not responsible for the separation; however, once they recognize it they ought to join the Catholic Church so they can finally have in Full what they have had most, but not all, of.

You’re welcome.

You’re a little off with your time frame there. Groups, which survive to the present day, have been breaking away from the Church since the Council of Ephesus (about 1500 years).

With all due respect, the Roman Catholic church can not judge whether the Orthodox have valid sacraments nor whether the Orthodox have a valid priesthood. This is certainly meat for discussion. Although we are somewhat flattered, it is not quite clear to Orthodox that they could really recognize it one way or the other. 🙂

Anyway, I disagree with your assumption. Priests are adjuncts of bishops, their office entirely depends upon the bishop and cannot exist without him. It is the Orthodoxy of the bishops which make it the true church of Christ.

Lacking that Orthodoxy those men would be nothing to the church.

It looks like you have just thrown Father Newman’s theory of Development of Doctrine right out the window.
