I am sure their is another thread out there that will answer my question, I just could not find one. If you know of a good one please send me a link.

Anyway my question is what is the difference between the Orthodox and Catholic views on the Holy Spirit… I was reading on another thread that that’s one of our theological difference’s between us.

Thanks and may God bless you!

The Holy Spirit is God and is worshipped & glorified. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father. Jesus was incarnate by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Giver of Life. The Holy Spirit is everywhere present and fills all things. The Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets. The Holy Spirit is Paraclete. The Holy Spirit is Comforter. The Holy Spirit guides the Church in all Truth. The Holy Spirit is the Treasurer of Blessings.

I think the biggest disagreement about the Holy Spirit between Catholics and Orthodox is that Catholics do not believe in John 15:26.

Do any of the Churches believe that there is a “rank” in the Holy Trinity? I was never sure about that…

Some do believe that when Jesus said that the Father is greater than He, it means there is a rank of sorts. But what Christ said isn’t about rank. At least Orthodoxy holds that the Holy Trinity is co-equal. There is an order among them, but not necessarily a rank.

yes…so what about it? What does that one verse prove?
So one verse doesn’t prove anything? What about Matthew 16:18? It’s just one verse right? You can’t make a dogma out of one verse.

Also, can you show me one verse that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father AND the Son?

what about matt 16? that is right…there is also tradition…to build up the understanding…not one verse.

You are making dogma out of one verse too…🤷

There is tradition. Creed sans Filioque, 325AD, Creed with Filioque, 9th century.

For you…
I’m not the one who believes councils pull out doctrines form thin air.

In fact, one of the Church Fathers said that if he says anything that is not found in Scripture, we should not believe him. I have to hunt down that quote, but for sure it was one of the early Church Fathers.
