Orthodox VS Catholic: Communion

So if the Orthodox Eucharist cannot pass disease or poison, then it will be trivial for scientific testing to distinguish the Eucharist from mere bread and wine. Any amount of toxin/poison/virus infused into the Eucharist will be inactivated and test that way. That is quite remarkable.
I don’t know how God does it, or if He does it exactly as you state here. All I know is you don’t get sick.

I certainly believe that God could ensure that no one gets sick when receiving Communion. Certainly Christ will not make us sick… He is the source of life as you said. I’m not so certain that I couldn’t get sick from the priest’s hand, or from him accidentally spitting on me, etc. Hence the precautions we are taking.

For example, at our cathedral, plexiglass has been installed on the altar rail. The priest and communicant are separated by the plexiglass but there is a slot for the priest to reach through and either place the Host on the tongue or the hand of the communicant… the plexiglass simply stops air flow and the possibility of the Priest or communicant infecting one another.
Some miracles occur only from time to time as decreed by God… an example would be the various so called Eucharistic miracles where actual visible, tangible heart tissue and blood has appeared on the altar. We can’t be assured that this will happen, but it has happened. The only thing we know for sure is that the bread and wine will become Our Lord… beyond that, I’m not sure I will put the Lord my God to the test.

He’s not dead, but living, for the saints are alive with Christ!

Christ is the God of the Living, not the dead. 😊

Maybe if you tried praying to him, he would illumine you to see the Truth of the Gospel and the Faith of the Saints. Just a suggestion. Try it at your own risk. 😉

That’s the Latin Code of Canon Law. Is there anything equivalent in the Code of Eastern Canons?

This kind of empirical evidence can only be attained through sincerity of heart in great need… Evil exists that we should choose Good… How can you know you cannot ask St. John a question long after he has departed this earth if you do not sincerely make an enquiry? I mean, I suppose one might call someone asking you to find out for yourself in the privacy of your own soul to be evangelizing, it seems to me to look more like a ruse to avoid a reality based experiential and empirical means of knowing something first hand and for yourself…

fwiw, I was an atheist my first 36 years, and disliked Christians another 14 years after that… So I know that for you to do so, to genuinely ask St. John in sincerity of heart about the event, would seem to be a betrayal of who you are… Yet I would reply to you that you are much more than you think - Literally… Proof being your marriage… But if you decide to not do so, I have nothing but respect for your integrity - I did the same - And if you keep your goodness of heart and honesty and care for others, God will come for you when you are not expecting Him to do so…

But if you DO ask privately, the answer can come, and usually does come, in events, not words, so pay attention… Ask John just like you ask yourself when you are considering any other issue… I went out one night at age 14 and asked God… Got no answer for 22 years…

Christianity is empirical…

I think you are empirical as well

eg Evidence based…

God bless your journey…

As you wish.

Just suggesting that maybe you try something new.

God bless your day.

This kind of empirical evidence is obtained inwardly - You will be the only one to witness it… Limiting empiricism to human awareness of material objects, you see, still relies on the inward empiricism of awareness, which can only be validated inwardly…

I was writing on a Steiner forum many years ago, and as I was writing, an inner event happened, a noesis of knowing, in which I “knew” that, as the person I was writing to was reading the post which had not yet been sent, that he had just “seen” what I was trying to explain… Soooo… I stopped mid word… Started another paragraph, and wrote: “There, you now see what I mean…” And hit send…

The reply was priceless astonishment and confusion: “How? How did you know… That half way through your word I just then understood what you were saying???”

A VERY empirical event, you see, from both sides, and NOT a material event…

You cannot empirically limit empiricism to materiality alone…

It applies to ALL experience…

Empirical means experiential…

You seem kind of angry and dismissive, for instance, and this can happen under authoritarian upbringing… You were raised Catholic? Rebellion is a common theme in such a childhood environment… Followed by acting out… Then resolution and reconciliation… Then becoming the authoritarian one’s self…

Most of my Catholic friends went through such a period of rebellion…

You do seem angry and dismissive…

I am no mindreader…

Thank-you for confirming the stereotype of Catholic rebellion against authority…

Some never get over it…

Many of these are Cleopatrian…

Like me…

(name removed by moderator) and George720,
I appreciate all of your combined (name removed by moderator)ut on the matter, along with the additional information you have given. But please also have a combined restraint on letting this become a quarrel. If you both so wish to have one last word on the matter then please do, I respectfully emphasize the word ‘last’.
