How does one determine the which of these churches is the true church of Christ? Which one faithfully carries forward the Apostolic Deposit of Faith? Which is more authentic?

From my understanding the King of England wanted a divorce from his wife and couldn’t get it from the church. So he decided to make his own church that was essentially catholic, but would allow him to get a divorce. And this was known as the church of England. Later it became the Angelican or Orthodox church.

Later protestant ideas creaped into the Orthodox church and the church became a middle ground between christianity and catholicism.

If I had the choice between Orthodox or Catholic, I would definetly choose Catholicism. And this is from a non-catholic viewpoint, I am protestant.

I don’t like to put one toe in catholicism and the other toe in the protestant faith. Its eaither choose one or the other.

I’m sorry, you are in error. Orthodoxy has NOTHING to do with Anglicanism.

I believe the Holy Father has stated that the Catholic and Orthodox are the “two lungs” of the Church.

Both have Apostolic Succession and both are real Churches with real sacraments.

They are in schism/irregular relationship b/c of the interpretation of the Primacy of Peter.

If you’re asking whether it became the Anglican Church or the Orthodox Church, the answer is that it became the Anglican Church.

Do you mean because Sublime Prince is saying that Catholics aren’t Christian? Or because he slipped it in there, rather than coming right out and saying “Catholics aren’t Christian”?

Ok I meant middle ground between Protestants and catholicism. I should of proof read my post. I quickly typed a response without bothering to read what I typed. Unfortunately their is no way to edit it after 20 minutes of posting. This is the punishment I get for having dyslexic habbits. If I can change that to what I meant to say that would be great.

Im trying to figure that out right now. (If you do figure it out tell me. ) Its hard for me to tell because I see it as a sort of a split between the truth. They both make excellent arguements. (Though when it comes to the church fathers the orthodox usually win, from my readings.) Yet I also have to recognize that the church fathers are not infalliable. So your left to try to figure out the truth. My current idea is to go to both, and see where the spirit leads me. Both the Divine Liturgy and the Mass on sundays. Book study on kalistos ware on Wed, Eucharistic adoration on fridays, and the occasional EO Vesper, or a daily mass. And than I ask a lot of questions to two Fathers, one holy and spiritual (EO) the other other holy and philosopical (RC) So far the spirit has led me no where fast, and I find myself firmly on mountian, but at least Im trying (I only recieve the eucharist at the mass though since I was raised catholic.)

I think that the best way to answer this question is to say both. Or neither. The Church was founded by Christ was the combined Orthodox and Catholic faith. It was both together. Now, without getting into who left whom or who was kicked out of what, which will happen soon enough (it always does), the Church split. Both sides can rightfully claim Apostolic succession, both can claim valid orders and sacraments. The question is, to me at least, is one side more “right” than the other? I am not sure that you can answer that.

You can say both because both are. You can, if you want, say neither because the parts cannot be greater than the whole.

As for which is right for you, that is a question that you mist study and pray about yourself.

That was in reference to the Eastern Catholic churches in John Paul II’s encyclical “Ecclesia en America.”

The problem with the Eastern Orthodox Church is that they reject the ministry of St. Peter and his successors to whom the Lord entrusted His flock. Thus, they are a federation of particular and national Churches.

They do well in preserving the faith otherwise because they cling to the authority of the bishops who were in communion with Peter in the first millenium. They accept the Councils from that time, but have reprobated some of their own pan-Orthodox Councils. Due to this fact and the fact that in two reunion councils (Lyons II, Florence) all controverted issues were settled in the Catholic favor (to which their bishops would later back out of), they no longer find Councils intrinsically authoritative.

I would recommend Akathist to Holy spirit. I have looked on internet saits and cannot find it in English, but below in Slavonic. You can have a Russian on-line translator, but more Slavonic expressions will be lost. Perhaps any prayer to Holy Spirit for such light.

While Orthodoxy is not in communion with Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy rejects the notion that Roman Catholicism is the “other half” of the Church, this, coupled with the fact that Orthodox doctrine rejects certain teachings unique to Roman Catholicism -* papal supremacy and infallibility, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, to name a few – does not mean that the Orthodox Church is “anti-Catholic.”

Thanks but I need specifics what does canon of supplication mean? Is it a specified prayer?
