SIZE=“5”]** HI out there. Can someone enlighten me a Pastoral convert since 2003. I have been finding that there is a lot of controversy about Vatican II.

Vatican II blesses the idea of freedom of thought and freedom of religion which was condemned by Trent and Vatican I for instance; which called it ‘insanity’’ and anathamatized anyone who would hold to this belief.

How can a this contradiction be accepted as something the faithful must believe?

I am really struggling with some things. Please help.

Thank You,
Michael.

My apologies, but I do not have the answers; I am not familiar enough with the Vatican II documents on religious freedom.

However, if I can give you some friendly advice: only listen to replies which reference the substance of the Council’s documents. There is a stark difference between what the council actually said, and what people think it said; this can be seen, for example, in the liturgy.

Michael,

Please bring the quotes from Vatican II with you so we can see them. Many people hijack the Council to promote their own heretical ideas.

If anything, I would think that the religious freedom statements were for those countries behind the Iron Curtain and other Communist countries. I believe the Council Fathers were hoping to make a stand for the Faith in this way.
