You imply as much daily in here, that the Catholic Church is so tainted with protestant innovations and slime and the holy refuge you’ve found is Orthodoxy that has none of these innovations. I submit you’re wrong.
The Church is Holy, yes. But can you quote where I have said the people are infallible and flawless?!?
My turn. You quote to me where the Lord made those exceptions? I seem to remember a very strict Jesus and the term porneia in the original Greek is the only exception. I look forward to reading your Biblical citations where he grants these various reasons!

Yes. Our Lord made exceptions out of His infinite mercy and compassion.

Convenient when one is losing an argument to say, “bahhh, go start another thread…” hmmmm. I didn’t say “start another thread about Honorius” because I know I’m right about it. By the way, you never did take me up on that dare to show me where Honorius ex cathedra explicitely, publically, and openly taught that Monothelitism is good, wholesome, required dogma. I’m still waiting…😉
That’s nice. Start another thread if you wish. Annulments have been debated to death.
Start another thread then! 😛

Boy do I have some stories for you.

I’ve never said these things. You are bearing false witness.

Unless you begin to educate yourself on how to use the quote feature properly, I will be forced to stop discussion with you.

You first. 😃

Your odd Korban factory (Annulment process) allows for many reasons. Why?

Convenient when one is losing an argument
I don’t think so. Your sarcasm increases as you further lose these little debates.😃

What am I missing? Brother Gurneyhalleck1 remarks about daily implications, yet Brother Mickey retorts that he never said such things.
I believe Brother Gurney stated the issue of implied, but then Brother Mickey doesn’t respond to the item or side steps it with his desire for a quotation. What am I missing?

Well brother Wildkit—since you have inserted yourself into gurn’s childplay, I will say that anything can be implied depending on the way you are reading it. You can even invent something and say it was implied. In fact I have just implied that you are saying I refuse to respond to implications.

See how this works---------brother. 😉

**Not at all, Mick. I’m glad you don’t use sarcasm or rolling eyes or smarty pants quips, though! I have a good role model from which to emulate in you. Thanks for your witness **
I don’t think so. Your sarcasm increases as you further lose these little debates.😃
**I am most certainly right about it and you know it. You have failed in every attempt to prove Honorius is a poster child against infallibility; all you did was prove a council condemned him as a heretic for letters. You never have shown me where he taught Monothelitism ex cathedra as a required dogma to all Christians. Can you please show me that? I’m waiting…
It’s easy to say someone is not right when you can’t take the dare and give me some proof in the pudding. All you can do is cry heretic, no ex cathedra hypocrisy to be found. **

But you’re not right about it. 👍

Oh yeah, Mick. You’ve really opened my eyes with one piddly case of Honorius and some letters from Sergius. Yep, opened the case wide open…

Wildkit, welcome to the fray! Thanks for considering me a brother in Christ. I consider you one as well. Mickey on a daily basis slams the Catholic Church and makes all sorts of implications about the Church. You can read his chronicles yourself. The constant implication is that Catholics are schismatic hypocrites, Orthodoxy is pure, undefiled, holy and not given to the idiotic innovations of Catholicism. I submit that with the liberal divorce teachings and allowing contraception, he made a lateral move if that is his mindset. And I am not going to go back and read through the legions of posts by Mickey where he is insulting to Catholics. I don’t have time to add up that much sarcasm, eye rolling, laughing at us, and inaccurate statements. But thanks for the concerns…

I forgot you were the poster child for charity and love. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

As for myself, I believe I made one of the comments you contribute to me. I truly believe the Latin Church to be schismatic–the other comments I did not make. You put words in my mouth such as hypocrite–this is very sad. I have never said such a thing. You are bearing false withness. 😦

For the record, I have many Latin and Eastern Catholic friends and family. I love them very much as brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope that you can overcome the bitterness that rages through your heart.

I have decided to place you on my ignore list due to repeated false accusations.

I pray that your Lenten journey will be fruitful.

Spelled Theotokos.
Thank you. It was early morning for me and I had “fat fingers” (I sometimes suffer from that even when it isn’t early morning. 😉 )
Panagia is a beautiful title for Our Lady
I agree.
It has **NOTHING **to do with innovated doctrine of the IC.
Can’t agree here. The Fathers of the Eastern tradition call the Mother of God “the All-Holy” (that is Panagia) and celebrate her as “free from any stain of sin, as though fashioned by the Holy Spirit and formed as a new creature”. Now the angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes Mary as “full of grace”–a Holy creation of the Holy Spirit. Through the centuries the Church has become aware that Mary had to be redeemed from the moment of her conception. Now that is what the dogna of the Immaculate Conception confesses. That Mary was the “splendor of an entirely unique holiness”. The dogma was not innovated doctrine. The doctrine is old. What made it dogma is that it was formally defined and proclaimed in 1854. Dogma is a formal definition of doctrine that the Church has accepted through the ages.
The Feast of the Dormition tells us that Our Lady fell asleep in the Lord. Does the Assumption tell you this?
The Dogma of the Assumption tells us that after Mary’s life on earth, Jesus took her body and soul to heaven with Him. The Assumption is celebrated on the same day as the Dormition is in the Western and Eastern Catholic Rites.

The Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic parish by me published a story from their traditions at their celebration of the Dormition/Assumtion. According to their tradition, it was noted that Mary’s Assumption was realized when St. Thomas (late as usual) asked to see Mary (one last time). It was when the other Apostles opened the tomb that all they found was Mary’s sash. The body was gone.

Mick, I think we both need to back off here and take a breather. I will say the following truth about both of us, hopefully we can agree on this–neither one of us is showing true Christian charity or the Lenten spirit right now because we’re locked in a battle of debate. We’re both not showing our better sides. You have definitely brought out the worst in me and I in you. Hopefully we can agree on that. I will say that I think I got too sarcastic with you. No excuse for it. I should always keep my calm. For that I apologize. I resent some of your remarks as you are angry about a few of mine. The tone of your posts seemed to me to be anti-Catholic and talking down to us as mindless boobs locked in schism and extremely misguided individuals. It seemed condescending to me. I accept your word at face value that that was NOT your intention. I’m sure you’re an honest guy and if you say you don’t feel that way, I accept that. I apologize for my generalization of you and hope you’ll accept it. When you laugh at me with emoticons rolling in laughter and eye rolls, it honestly got me hot. I don’t like it. I don’t ever use those on anybody. But in my anger toward you, I used sarcasm and a biting tone right back, which is just as bad.

I know you sincerely believe your Orthodox theology and I don’t think you a fool for living the Orthodox religious life. I highly respect the way Orthodox have held their worship in liturgy, their beliefs, and their overall faith life in tact for 2,000 years without a big government approach. I like the depth of the worship, I love the iconography (my home has more icons in it than any type of Christian art, probably too many!), the love of Christ, and the respect for tradition. I respect the validity of her sacraments, and the dignity of the Orthodox people in general. I disagree with several things about Orthodoxy as I spelled out to you. But we can agree to disagree about these things in a king way. I hope you’ll agree that neither of us has been kind. We’ve both been unwilling to really dialogue but instead jab and jab.

I personally do not want to cut you off or tell you to hit the bricks because of this negative exchange. In the spirit of Lent I want to keep talking to you. I just hope we can both change the tone. I am guilty of not living up to my Christian charity in here with you.

I take back several statements, especially the charge of hypocrisy. I hope you will take back the charge that I have bitterness in my heart. I hold no bitterness toward you or Orthodoxy, just disagreements. I can’t be bitter toward Orthodoxy seeing as how I never have been Orthodox, have never had a serious run-in with one, and rarely encounter them in my daily life. I haven’t had a bad experience with one or hold any malice.

I notice you put me on your ignore list just now as I finish this post. I respect that. That’s fine. I hope, however, that maybe a poster, a friend of yours, someone will forward this post to you so you can read it and know I am sorry for my part in this nasty exchange.

May God bless you, your family, and your faith and may you continue to walk in the love of Christ Jesus. Again, I am sorry.

So you love your Catholic family and friends but you mock their faith??

Infallibility of the Pope?
What’s so confusing about the infallibility of the Pope (which is connected to the infallibility of the Church), weren’t you twice Catholic??

p.s. Do not confuse infallibility with impeccability.

He does however attempt to show (with those quotes) that the West may have gone a little too far with their definitions in 1870. 😉

It was implied.
Only in your mind is he implying such a thing, moreover. that you would deduce this from two quotes when you haven’t even read his book on the ecclesiology of the Church is mind boggling.

p.s. He is not denying papal infallibility because papal infallibility was in evidence long before the dogma was ever declared.

LOL! Every single time you start to get frustrated you throw in these red herrings. The differences in teaching between our Churches regarding marriage and contraception have been debated infinitely here.
Yes, I am frustrated at the fact that you can blithely ignore the blatant innovations of your own Church traditions. Moreover, our conversation on contraceptives was never dealt with in a satisfactory manner, i.e. you never did respond to my last two posts which delineated the use of Natural family planning (which is neither an artificial contraception or meant to be used for superficial purposes, i.e., spacing children . . ) and/or that Orthodox do allow ARTIFICIAL contraception for the purposes of spacing children, enhancing the expression of marital love between couples (I posted them in the eastern forum on the unity of Catholic/Orthodox). Moreover, as you should well know by now, all churches prior to the 1930’s believed the use of artificial contraceptives was immoral. Now, as for annulments, admittedly there is some abuse within the system (this is to be rectified with the stance pope Benedict has taken towards the misuse of annulments and the appointment of archbishop Raymond Burke as chief canonist to the Vatican’s appeal court), however, in and of itself, the “declaration of nullity” is not immoral. The criterion allowing for annulments is as such:
Most annulments are based on canon 1095, psychological reasons. These include a wide range of factors. Some of them may be misrepresentation or fraud (concealing the truth about capacity or desire to have children for example, or about an preexisting marriage, drug addiction, felony convictions, sexual preference or having reached the age of consent)
Refusal or inability to consummate the marriage (inability or refusal to have sex)
Bigamy, incest (being married to someone else, or close relatives)
Duress (being forced or coerced into marriage against one’s will or serious external pressure, for example a pregnancy)
Mental incapacity (considered unable to understand the nature and expectations of marriage)
Lack of knowledge or understanding of the full implications of marriage as a life-long commitment in faithfulness and love, with priority to spouse and children.
Psychological inability to live the marriage commitment as described above.
Illegal “Form of Marriage” (ceremony was not performed according to Catholic canon law)
One/both partners was under the influence of drugs, or addicted to a chemical substance.
Furthermore, I found this:
The Code of Canon Law for the Eastern Churches (CCEO) in canon 780 follows the Second Vatican Council’s teaching that the tribunals of the Orthodox Church have a valid annulment process to declare a marriage null. Only divine law and merely civil effects of marriage are not considered valid actions by a tribunal. In other words, if an Orthodox tribunal holds that the marriage was invalid from its inception, that decision would be accepted by a marriage tribunal in the Catholic Church. However, some of the Orthodox churches allow a second or third marriage in oikonomia (economy), which is not permitted in the Catholic Church. This concept states that the first marriage was valid, and the second is allowed in the economy of salvation. The Catholic Church would see this as contrary to divine law, and so not a valid act.
The fact of the matter is that an annulment is not the equivalent of an ecclesiastical divorce because the former negates the fact that a valid marriage took place (for the reasons mentioned above) while the latter does indeed dissolve a valid marriage.

What’s so confusing about the infallibility of the Pope (which is connected to the infallibility of the Church), weren’t you twice Catholic??

p.s. Do not confuse infallibility with impeccability.
And, also that it does not mean that the Pope is without, and/or capable of committing a sin.😃

What’s so confusing about the infallibility of the Pope (which is connected to the infallibility of the Church)…
I am going to go on a tangent here, just to open up the discussion a little bit.

We all believe in the infallibility of the church. The church will always prevail.

The idea of infallibility of the bishop of Rome specifically is connected with the concept of universal jurisdiction of the bishop of Rome.

In other words, if one considers that ALL of the responsibility for the church is vested in one man, then it can plausibly be argued that ALL of the infallibility resides in that one man.

The claim for Papal Universal Jurisdiction does not pass muster, even if one looks only at the historical facts surrounding the western church (much the less when also considering the eastern church). This makes arguing for Papal Infallibility pointless.

My position is that the Honorius case is not a concern over infallibility claims directly, it actually impinges (further) on the claims for universal jurisdiction more than anything else, and on the claims for Papal Infallibility obliquely.
p.s. Do not confuse infallibility with impeccability.
It appears no one here does.

The accusation of “confuse infallibility with impeccability” is a mild canard.

This is a logical argument:

One group asserts that Jesus (God) intended the bishops of Rome, no matter who they might be from age to age, to have fully absolute control over the entire church.

To name bishops (and transfer them around) …

To call councils, to suppress councils, sessions, canons and decrees of councils …

To modify, edit, compose and codify the holy canons of the church …

To regulate the liturgy …

To canonize the saints and control the calendar …

To erect and suppress dioceses outside of his Metropolitan territory … etc.

And finally then, to proclaim or define dogma on his sole authority on behalf of the entire church.

If these powers had existed with the bishop of old Rome they would have automatically devolved onto the bishop of New Rome (as the next in priority) for the eastern church at the time of the schism. In fact, these rights and powers were unknown to the church at that time.

Really none of these universal powers were operative in the early church, and so they were unknown to anyone. In fact, the beginnings of each of these Papal powers can fairly accurately be dated. You probably know this, because you are intelligent and well read. (For example, Papal monopoly over the canonization of saints dates to the year 1200AD with Innocent III, yet today it is sometimes cited by apologists as a form or aspect of Papal infallibility at work. The power derives -in fact- from claims of Papal jurisdiction.)

And that there is no recourse to the man’s judgment, no matter whom he is or what he thinks. Whether he is a holy and prayerful man or not, whether he is thinking rightly or not, whether he is dissolute and corrupt or not, whether he keeps concubines, sells church offices, wages war or condones other sins, or even if he is a heretic. He is to be the head of the church, there is no recourse to his judgment and he cannot be removed, or even remonstrated with.

There has never been an impeccable man (with the exception of Our Lord) to walk the earth, much less in the church, so no one expects to see one in any bishops chair, anywhere. Orthodox believers will refuse to follow such a man, and this is what saved Holy Orthodoxy in times past. For Catholics though, there is no recourse, they must obey the heretic/simoniac/adulterous/bi-polar/what-have-you Pope in all matters of church administration and practice.

These fallible men who have already held that particular office then, make a very poor case for universal jurisdiction, on behalf of any bishop of any See (Rome or elsewhere). It cannot be seen how Jesus would have wanted the entire church under the absolute control of a single very peccable heretic (much less the various other aberrations that have somehow snared the prize through history).

Perhaps this is why Orthodox Catholics cannot accept this new idea, this novelty.
