Is there any way to see the changes in the old testament between the RSV-CE and the RSV-2CE (or second catholic edition)? Specificly I’m trying to identifiy differences in the book of Joshua.

Thanks for your time.

At present, no. When they touched up the text for the second edition they didn’t keep track of the changes, so for now the simplest way I can think of is to have someone read the first edition out loud while you follow along in the second.

Jos. 7:6 - CE (rent his clothes) 2CE (tore his clothes)
Jos. 8:21 and 17 other verses- CE (smote) 2CE (struck)
Jos. 10:4 - CE (smite) 2CE (strike)
Jos. 15:6 - CE (smites) 2CE (strikes)
Jos. 15:18- CE (she alighted from her** asss**) 2CE (she alighted from her donkey)
Jos. 6:21; 7:24 and 9:4 CE (asses) 2CE (donkeys)

Very useful. Thanks very much for taking the time to do that!

Thus the biggie.
Isaiah 7:14 Ce(young girl) 2Ce(virgin).
Ironically, our beloved bishops have reversed the preceding progress
Isaiah 7:14 NAB(virgin) 2NAB(young girl).

That is odd, isn’t it? I understand a desire to have a purely literal translation because I feel thats the best way to study the scriptures, and the hebrew word “olma” or Alma" (forgive my misspelling) certainly means young woman, but in cases of clear Christo-centrism, the Christo-centric ought to always trump the literal translation. Besides, that Hebrew word can be used to denote a girl who is a virgin, and since when is “a young woman will concieve” a prophecy? I just don’t get it. I just don’t get the USCCB sometimes either.
