Christianity in general says that there is one God who sent down his only son to save us all from sin. So what about all the other religions of the world? The Bible tells us that Christianity is the only way to go; that it’s the only “right” religion. I imagine that every single other religion in the world has the same belief that they are correct. Doesn’t everyone have the same chance to be right? Or are they all just “plain wrong?”
 
One God, one truth. For God is the Truth Itself.

Those who say truth isn’t absolute or that truth is relevant make a statement of absolute truth, so their argument is invalid on the whole. Hence, there are absolute truths, and God is the Absolute Truth Itself.

Every religion has truths in it, and Christianity has the fullness of truth. For Christianity has Christ, and Christ is the Truth.
 
There is one Truth. Now who has it can be argued. Yes, arguably everyone believes their religion is the right one. It’s just like if everyone argued the sky was a different color though. Everyone would think they were right, but only the ones who said blue actually would be. So what we have to do now with religion is look at what makes the most sense based on what we know and what has been revealed to us. I believe, through intense study, that Catholicism is correct. We say blue. Other religions who say green or purple may be close, but Catholicism is the only one dead on.

If you are asking us Mormons I can answer. If not, you can keep on looking I suppose. It appears that there has alwyas been just one religion of God. It has been around before the world was made. It was the religion Adam knew and was handed down by God. Actually Jehovah was Jesus Christ prior to His advent on earth. Satan’s plan and fo rwhich he was kicked out of heaven as written about in Reevelation, was to deny man his right of self determination or agency. Christ’s plan was just the opposite. But earth is Satans lair. He has great power over the mind of man and thus can influence man’s behavior which he does. But Christ’s plan is to allow all men to make their own decisions good or bad right or wrong. He wants them all to return because they chiose to and notbecause thery were forced towhich was Satan’s plan. He would force man to obey the commandments so everyone would return to Father and then he wanted the glory himself. Christ wanted the glory for Heavenly Father.

After man came to earth he began making his own way and many chose to not live accordingto Gods commandments but by the dictates of their heart and conscience. Over time, the truths of God’s gosple became corrupted by Satan’s influence and the ideas of man. That is how these other religions came into being. A little here and a little there and after a while they only had a few of God’s religious principles left. But all had something. It may not have been much but there is something left in all of them.

God being the great and good Father that he is has made allowances for these wayward children of His. He said all men must come through Christ to be saved and so it is. Not all though, know of Christ nor have they had benefit of the saving ordinances (baptism and reecieving the Holy Ghost which are fundamental to salvation. Not all had a complete understanding of the gosple. Many have lost their way. It is not fair nor good to bring children into the world knowing they would be castout with Satan for something they never knew about or had an honest chance to learn, understand and live. But in John 5 we learnthat Christ has allowed for teh gospel to be preached to those who are dead and that they too can be saved even after they have died regardless of thier religion or lackof in this life. Mormons have temples for providing those saving ordinances for the dead. That is what we do there. That is why we do genealogy.
 
Are you referring to the bit about whether you’ll go to Hell or not? Because if that’s the case, Buddhism and Paganism don’t have a “Hell”, mainly because they believe in reincarnation. Or then again, there’s always Universalism, which believes that wherever you believe you will go, that’s where you will go, because you will it. 😉

But yes, I would believe that while not everyone may openly say so, especially to others of different creeds, most if not all believe that their way is the correct way.

Mathematics in general says that there is only one integral answer to the question “what is 2 + 2*” So what about all the other thought systems of the world? Mathematics tells us that answer is 4; that it’s the only “right” answer. I imagine that every single other thought system in the world has the same belief that they are correct. Doesn’t everyone have the same chance to be right? Or are they all just “plain wrong?”

To respond, yes, all other answers are wrong. But some are more nearly right than others, such as a thought system that says 2 + 2 = 3.999999 as compared to a thought system that says 2 + 2 = 9,568,487.0003 or 2 + 2 = cheeseburger.

The parallel holds true for other religions.

Only the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth. Protestant denominations have a lot of truth but also many serious errors that can disable them from entering heaven (no priesthood, no Real Presence, no sacrament of reconciliation, they are separated from the Vicar of Christ, some of them support gay “marriages” or don’t mind abortion, etc.).

Believing in nonsens cannot give salvation. Everybody has to search the truth. Basically those who are not Catholic will not be saved. But God is merciful and may save them somehow… Staying outside the CC is risky and foolish. Don’t forget that the gate of heaven is narrow - it means we have to be strict. God bless:)
 
I have always been fascinated in many religions. Most religions consider only themselves correct (Christians, Muslims, Jews, and others) and others not right. Usually being “not right” has a consequence.

I am glad to say I am me, not under any specific religion, and probably never will be again.
 
The one sure fie way to find out is One stand on the side of Christianity and another on the side of the others. Wait till final judgment and see who ends up where. 🤷

Yep, our loving God will send all the people who picked the wrong religion or who were unlucky enough to have been raised as a Hindu, straight to hell! 👍
 
Well, there can only be one correct answer to the question ‘what colour are LilyM’s eyes’, even though some people might be certain that they’re green, others that they’re brown, others that they’re blue.

So there can only be one correct answer to the question ‘which religion reveals the most of God’s truth’.

And there are ways of having at least a better-than-average chance of knowing. In the case of my eye colour, one can look at my family and see that none of them have blue eyes, rather brown or hazel. One can know that genetically brown eyes are a dominant gene, blue and green more recessive genes. And one can correctly guess that my eyes are brown.

Did my hindu buddy get a chance to hear the WORD OF GOD?
If yes he did and rejected Gods word. you bet he will be in hell;) He would of denied the truth.

That’s not what the Catholic Church teaches. You should have learned about the Catholic faith before you left it.
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.

Different religions share different parts of truth. Muslims profess belief in the God of Abraham. Jews are our “elder brothers” in the faith. Eastern religions encourage charity and peace. As Catholics we believe that God calls all to salvation in Christ, and those who respond to that grace from God and live lives of charity - we can hope that they too will be saved. However, we believe that the best way to be saved is to take full advantage of the graces provided to all through the Church that Jesus Christ founded on Peter and the Apostles. We believe the Catholic Church holds to the fullness of what has been revealed. Certainly, it is not the complete truth, for none of us will know all things until we are united with God in heaven. But we believe the Church has the fullness of what Jesus and his apostles taught. And so, the most certain path to salvation is the Catholic Church. All paths lead through Christ, whether you are christian or non-christian.

P.S. Those who reject Christ for the Muslim faith, or for the Hindu faith, may be doing so because they do not know that Christ is truly the Son of God. They may be invincibly ignorant because of their culture, upbringing, prejudice, etc. In the end, only God knows why a person rejects the gospel, and whether that rejection merits eternal separation from God.

Hi Paul, if you had actually read the text I had quoted above, you would see that my response was 100% directed at the quote. Yes, I am aware of what Mother Church teaches in regards to salvation.

It seems that one of your fellow Catholics is himself / herself mistaken with regards to what the Holy Church teaches.

You place a smiley after you speak of someone entering through the gates of hell for all of eternity?

You sir, are very much in need of psychiatric assistance.

As certain as you are that Christ is your God, a Muslim is just as certain that Allah is the true path. If it is Allah that you meet in the afterlife, I suspect that you may be bunking with said Hindu that you so gleefully anticipate his journey to hell, if he had the mis-fortune of rejecting Christ in favour of his faith.

Yes I have and I agree, it is filled with the most disgusting acts of depravity that bronze age man could attribute to their Desert God.

My personal favourite bit of OT scripture;

2 Chronicles 21:15

The LORD will strike your people, your children, your wives, and all that is yours with a great plague;
and you shall have severe pains from a disease in your bowels, while your bowels issue forth because of the disease, day after day.

Sweet, your glorious and wondrous Lord striking little kids with a disease of the bowels!

Those little kids probably deserved it! Funny how you never hear anyone in Church praising God for slaughtering those little children with a agonizing disease? :eek:
