Hi,

I live in a community where a few people have been watching films that are illegally copied. And on certain ocassions the whole community gets together to watch movies that are sometimes illegally copied.

Now, this is a religious community having the vow of poverty even though we do not live frugally by any means

Do I have an obligation to publicly raise protest about this, or privately raise protest to the one in charge of the group, or can I make a silent protest by absenting myself when an illegally copied film is being shown.

God bless

Thomas,
I think it depends. I certainly think you should absent yourself when these movies are being played, and eventually I think it will be necessary for you to admonish the sinner (i.e. tell them not to watch pirated films) - however I don’t think you have to do that right now if you don’t feel ready. Go into your room and pray - maybe the rosary if Maronites use it. 😉

Can I ask you a question though? What kind of religious community is it - one for monks? Or what?
