I’ve seen some people leave out the first “o my Jesus” or evening leave out the “glory be” and”oh my Jesus” all together. I’ve also seen some people leave out the entire beginning part (creed and three Hail Marys). I am curious to know if there are other ways to pray the rosary, or other prayers to pray that are like said rosary.

Just my personal opinion here as the Rosary is relatively new to me. When I pray the Rosary, I do it the best way I know how. Sometimes I just meditate on different Bible verses, using it more as an aid to prayer. I would say there are traditional ways to pray the Rosary, but that it can never be prayed “wrong.” I find it difficult to participate in a group praying the Rosary because there is always some local influence as to what is considered traditional.

The Rosary has developed over the centuries and people have their own customs as well. There are also different Rosaries such as the Franciscan Crown or St. Joseph Rosary.

You can read this website… it will give you the two different ways to start the Rosary.

Also, some people don’t pray the LUMINOUS mysteries, therefore the days are a little different.

WITH LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
  • Mon, Sat & Sundays during Advent and Christmastide = Joyful
  • Tue, Fri & Sundays during Lent = Sorrowful
  • Wed, and all other Sundays = Glorious
  • Thursday = Luminous
WITHOUT LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
  • Joyful = Mon, Thur, & Sundays of Advent, Sundays of Christmastide, and Sundays of Time after Epiphany
  • Sorrowful = Tue, Fri, & EVERYDAY during both Septuagesima & Lent
  • Glorious = Wed, Sat, Sundays of both Eastertide & Time after Easter
Additionally, the Fatima Prayers were added after 1918. Most people pray them, but some don’t. The Fatima Prayers were considered “optional.”

Next, some people also add meditations, intentions, scripture readings, etc for each mystery and/or for each Hail Mary.

Finally, many parishes/people also have additional intentions they add at the end. Plus, the ending prayers are not always the same. Some only pray the Hail Holy Queen, some pray the newer “Final Prayer,” some pray both, etc.

Is summary:
Traditionally, there are two ways to start the Rosary, two different ways to pick the appropriate mystery, one way to be pray the beads, Fatima Prayer is optional, and lots of different ways to end the Rosary after the last decade.

I pray this helps.

God Bless

I like to pray the Scriptural Rosary, which has a line of Scripture before each Hail Mary.
It helps me to meditate better on the mysteries.

In fact there is a book which I use “The Scriptural Rosary”. It has those scriptures for all four sets of the mysteries. Before the pandemic, several friends and myself would pray that Rosary together every week at my home. We took turns leading each decade.
