I can’t comment on the allegations but some of the things in the Ottaviani Intervention would be I think a little incompatible given the good cardinal’s record in the 1950’s. Omission of “Through Christ our Lord”? Was proposed at the liturgical conferences where he was present. Not saying “Ite Missa est” in private Masses? Also proposed at the same. Reference to red on Good Friday in the footnotes? I do not think as a Roman cardinal he wouldn’t have written such a thing. The table? I can see the problematic nature but firstly the author errs in describing the number of times “table” is used. And secondly the Cardinal himself celebrated versus populum on such a table altar* at Lugano. About which Reinhold wrote “No ‘grand inquisitor’ ever displayed such vivacious cordiality or watched with greater sympathy the stately and in some details novel rite around the holy altar.”I recommend reading the Ottaviani intervention as well. Still one of the best critiques of the Novus Ordo Missae there is. And written by a Cardinal who actually had a truly pastoral concern for the faithful (along with a good deal of common sense in regards to liturgical matters).
Further, it is also noted that the secretary to Cardinal Ottaviani was publicly accused of fraud in the matter. It makes absolutely no sense that Cardinal Ottaviani would criticize the New Mass itself, and then turn around and praise it when no actual changes to the Novus Ordo itself had been made.
