I saw Ouija Boards for sale at Barnes and Noblelast week. I knew they sold them in toy stores but B&N? Are you all sure they are unsafe?
 
My mother had a scary experience with one as a kid and forbade us from ever using one. I guess most people are just messing about but even so I wouldn’t want anything to do with one.
 
Ermehgerd not a children’s board game. What next a children’s card game? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

unlike other board games, the whole point of the game is to actually contact ghosts/spirits

we’re not just talking about a role play or pretent magic spells written on cards and that sort of thing

Yet they are sold in stores and not one incident has been reported by a major news network of anything bad happening. Again what next coloring books?

A friend of mine has used a Ouija board on several occasions. I have advised him against using it, but he insists it is used just for fun and that it is harmless. Is this true?

Answer:

No. The Ouija board is far from harmless, as it is a form of divination (seeking information from supernatural sources). The fact of the matter is, the Ouija board really does work, and the only “spirits” that will be contacted through it are evil ones.

It’s true that many people view the Ouija board as harmless. They often claim, “Oh, I don’t believe in it,” or something to this effect. However, a disbelief in something does not necessarily mean that something isn’t real. The Ouija board has an objective reality that exists apart from a person’s perception of it. In other words, it’s real even if you don’t believe in it. And we know this because God himself tells us so.

The Lord repeatedly condemns any and all occultic practices, including divination. While many Bible passages could be cited, the following one is typical of his view of occultic practices: “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord” (Dt 18:10–12, NIV).

On the experiential side of the issue, we have the testimony of the Church’s exorcists. Their experience shows that Ouija boards are far from harmless. Some investigating supernatural phenomena from a Catholic perspective have gone so far as to say that 90 percent of their very worst cases involving demonic activity have been linked to the use of the Ouija board.

Simply put, nothing positive can ever come from the use of the Ouija board, and God warns us against such things for our own spiritual safety.

You don’t appear to know how the news works at all. As if a “major news network” is going to cover that every time it happens. Are you saying you don’t believe anything bad happens because you don’t hear about it on the news?

Hate to break it to you then, but lots of things happen that are never reported on the news.

And are you saying that nothing bad has ever come from using a Ouija board?

Not that I disagree about ouija boards, but this isn’t the strongest argument against them. If all it takes is one bad event, then most everything around us would be bad.

I’m not saying I believe they’re bad, I’m not saying I don’t. I’m saying find something else to do.

:confused: It wasn’t meant as an argument against them. I was asking a question. I am not talking about everything around us being bad or not.

Now I have a question. What about them makes them occultic? Is it the arrangement of the letters and pictures on the board? Is it the way people use them? If it were on display in a museum where no one could use it, would it still be occultic? Is its presence, in and of itself, a danger? Is the factory where they’re made a dangerous place?

If I used a checkerboard for divination, would the checkerboard be considered dangerous?

What I’m trying to find out is if the ouija board is dangerous or if the danger is in how or why people use it. E.g., if someone created a game that was not divination at all but used a ouija board, would that be a bad thing?
