Good Morning-
I was wondering what other familes do on Mary’s Birthday, to give Her honor on Her special day.

Thank you,
K

At college, at least:
Switching the tablecloth on my bedside table to white (it follows the liturgical year), and Lauds and Vespers as daily.

I’ll certainly be going to Mass that morning. Not sure what else I want to do…

The syromalabar church takes nombu or abstinence, like lent, from September 1.

And in Her Morning
by Jessica Powers
from The Selected Poetry of Jessica Powers

The Virgin Mary cannot enter into
my soul for an indwelling. God alone
has sealed this land as secretly as His own;
but being mother and implored, she comes
to stand along my eastern sky and be
a drift of sunrise over God and me.

God is a light and genitor of light.
Yet for our weakness and our punishment
He hides Himself in midnights that prevent
all save the least awareness of Him.
We strain with dimmed eyes inward and perceive
no stir of what we clamored to believe.
Yet I say: God (if one may jest with God),
Your hiding has not reckoned with Our Lady
who holds my east horizon and whose glow
lights up my inner landscape, high and low.
All my soul’s acres shine and shine with her!
You are discovered, God; awake, rise
out of the dark of Your Divine surprise!
Your own reflection has revealed Your place,
for she is utter light by Your own grace.
And in her light I find You hid within me,
and in her morning I can see Your Face.

Thank you for the replies and ideas-I love the poem Googler. I will share it with the family.

I am going to move a Mary statue to the living room on that day, and say an extra rosary. I hope the children mark this day as special.

I remember as a little girl, a story my grandmother told me. She said it was not in the bible but it is written in a special book, which I forget the name of.It is about how St. Ann and St. Jocqium became parents at an advanced age when the angel came to tell them about how Anne would give birth to Mary, and that their child would be a servant of God.

When Mary was born and of toddler age to go to the temple, she climbed many stairs to the area in the temple where sacrifices were offered, even though she was very young to do so, and they were amazed. Then when Mary was a teen, she knew already that she would remain a virgin for God, and did not want to go to the ceremony where all the girls who were choosing their husbands through a process. By a miracle Joseph was chosen for her by God at this ceremony.

I don’t know the name of this book or writing, as I mentioned earlier, but if anyone knows that would great. There is more to it, but I forget the details. I think meditating on this would also be nice, but I want to make sure that I am telling it correctly to the younger members of the family.

Interesting! I had no idea the Blessed Virgin’s birthday was on Sept 8. How does the Church know when her birthday is? I have no idea what documents would have that kind of information.

At any rate, it seems she shares her birthday with my husband. 😃 That’s really cool.

September 8 is nine months after the Immaculate Conception.🙂

Haha, well calculating it that way does make sense. 🙂 I guess really Sept 8 would be more of an estimation then since it’s possible she may have been born premature or late.

I place flowers in front of her statue in our yard and say a rosary. I ask Mary to pray for us to her Son.

Put flowers in front of Her statue. That’s a super idea!!
Currently there are only grass & weeds around it. :imsorry:

We usually hear mass, but this year, I wasn’t able to heart mass 😦 But I keep on talking to our blessed virgin.

My dearest Mother Mary, accept this Holy Rosary as proof for my tender love for you, for the intentions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and in atonement for the offenses committed against your Immaculate Heart.
I offer you this spiritual “Bouquet of Roses” because I love you. I put all my confidence in you, since your prayers before God are most powerful. For the greater glory of God and for the sake of Jesus, your loving Son, hear and grant my prayer. Sweet Heart of Mary, be my Salvation. Amen. Alleluia.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLESSED MOTHER MARY!
