I never liked singing this particular hymn in the choir Our Father Calypso Version the tune to my ears is too distracting.
Well we have been asked to sing it again, at choir i voiced my opinion, just saying i felt it was not solemn (its a calypso like the sort of music tht is played on kettle drums with a lilt). A few agreed with me, i am a little surprised that this is a liturgical hymn book (Liturgical htmns old and new K. Mayhew).
Perhaps i’m wrong perhaps its me but shouldn’t we say the our father in reverence, in the liturgy it does say let us ‘dare’ to say the our father. My concept of revernance includes focusing amongst over things and i personally find the song distracting almost entertaining i cant speak others but fear they may not focus on the words of the most holy prayers.
Just wonder your opinions i know we are lieving in post vatican 2 and i think spirited music has its place but the other father is not about jumping for joy is it? (i didnt knw pre-vatican 2 btw i am a late revert).
Thanks
