At my parish, we have a lot of studying Brothers that train (for lack of a better word) here for their ordination and serve as Deacons in the meantime. During my RCIA, we had a Deacon that sat with us and through him I learned a great deal. Learned about what men looking to become a Priest have to go through, as well as some theological stuff that my RCIA organizers couldn’t really answer. Basically an all-around great guy.
Anyway, he left for his Ordination (which was being held in his hometown) but came back this weekend to celebrate the Eucharist and give the Homily. Didn’t know he would be there so it was an extra awesome surprise.
Unfortunately he’s being assigned elsewhere in the country (as a High School teacher - what can I say, he’s a Jesuit
), but after mass today he stuck around long enough to say final farewells and amid all that agreed to bless my medals for me.
It was amazing.
Made me feel ultra proud to know that my Parish at least had a hand in at least one great man’s formation as a Priest. I wonder if he’ll agree to be my long-distance spiritual advisor…
Anyway, God got an extra good one with this guy. :extrahappy:
