Our home world was destroyed by our Sun: there is 8 billion of us, will you let us stay on earth?

I for one would welcome our new alien overlords.
I wouldn’t. What if, having pitched camp, they decide to a) wipe us out so as to have more land available to them, or b) wipe all our minds so as to have us as slaves?

What are their thoughts on homelessness? Global warming? Terrorism? Religiously-satirical cartoons?

I’d be all for letting them stay, but I’m pretty sure that any significantly advanced civilization would come to realize pretty quickly that we humans aren’t very good roommates and they would run away as fast as they can!

If we can’t even get along with each other, how could we possibly expect to integrate an entire alien civilization among us? I would politely suggest they move on, for their own good.

Ditto on Marvin.
While your estimate is true for now, if we had colonies on Pluto or Titan by then, human life would survive.
Are there any life supporting resources on Pluto? I think it’s all rock and frozen gases with hardly any sunlight. May have to wait for New Horizons to confirm.

What if they thought we had no souls?

How would they communicate with us? Telepathy? We shouldn’t assume they’d have that ability. In the movies, every alien civilization speaks English, but let’s get real. And I don’t buy the “universal translator” thing either, unless it is programmed based on intimate knowledge of a given race – which would be difficult if not impossible for the aliens to acquire of humans, if they are different enough to begin with, which is perhaps likelier than them being similar.

So if they can’t communicate with us – which seems likely – then there is no way of knowing their intentions except by watching them act, and vice versa; and even then we may be confused. So it’s not like we could just say, “Sure, go settle down there.” If we pointed or tried to shake their tentacle, they might think we are threatening them.

Even if we could communicate well enough to establish peace, the people of earth would never agree as a whole what to do with them, and it would only take one person doing something stupid to ruin everything.

If the sun had exploded, methinks Pluto would be quite warm.

And it’s even likelier that the aliens would have no concept of a “soul.”

How should human beings respond to this? How do you think human beings will respond to this.
This is the Mother of All Hypotheticals.

Sure, you can have Iceland, that will displace the least amount of our people and will give you enough land for a home and 1/2 acre lot.

Proper use of linking verbs is a prerequisite to alien occupation of earth.

And where would the Icelanders go?

Why not try persuading Denmark to sign over Greenland, or Russia to give up Kamchatka?

The scenario is that the alien’s sun exploded, not ours. But even if a work around is found for the lack of heat and light that far out I question whether Pluto would have sufficient resources for a sustained human population. There are already health impacts from being in an environment of significantly reduced gravity over a long period.

The Australian government turns away refugee boats with 100 humans on board.

I can hardly see us welcoming 8 billion aliens.

My sense is that it would not take long for them to realize they had made a mistake, and move on to a planet less fractious.

Ladies and gentleman, this thread has been placed in the philosophy section so ummm…let’s straighten up and hover right now. I know we can make use of more neurons than we’ve brought to bear on this query so far.

:tsktsk:
The question is too funny. It is beyond me not to laugh. However, the serious answer is simply there is not enough data to answer the question. So for me, the answer would be, maybe yes, maybe no.

If our planet was destroyed and we went to another planet - and we were more advanced - knowing our history we would attack , kill and try to take the planet and enslave the race of being - our history says we would.

So I don’t think they would just move on if we said no - survival says they will attack and take the planet.for the survival of their race just like we would…

:bible1:

Regardless, a situation like this will *never *happen. :whacky:
You are definitely right about that…in a situation like that, NO superior race would ‘ask’, they would simply land here and do what they want…what else could the human race do? Our military would last about 5 minutes in any type of battle.

I dont think a far superior alien race would even try to communicate with us, they would not see us as ‘people’, it would more akin to how we look at cockroaches infesting a house, would you go in and ask the roaches if you could live there for awhile or just destroy them all, and move in? LOL

In “Ender’s Game” (the book, not the movie) the aliens didn’t think that humans were any more alive than plants with feet; after all, humans didn’t seem to be able to receive or give off telepathic messages like all other known life could. So the aliens started paving over earth to make it suitable for their young. When the humans attacked it was a curious behaviour. So the aliens started cutting the humans open to see if there was some hidden telepathic organ. But they couldn’t find any. Finally after many humans were slaughtered one was responsive to their telepathic messages. The aliens felt bad and decided to never return to earth. But the humans didn’t find out it was a big mistake until after they had spent generations developing a weapon that eventually destroyed the home planets of the aliens.
