I think he misunderstood “keeper”
thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/28/obama-talks-about-his-faith-2/?hp

ALBUQUERQUE — President Obama expounded Tuesday on the reasons he became a Christian as an adult, telling a group of residents here that he was a “Christian by choice” and that “the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead – being my brother and sister’s keeper.”

I suggest checking a dictionary for the various definitions of “keeper”. It would seem that in a religious or biblical context we are all called to be “our brothers keepers” and not with any connotation of being a prison guard or goal (jail or prison) keeper. Oh, I forgot. This is the epoch of negative spin when we do not like someone. 🙂

I suggest you quit suggesting I do things. That is abuse disguised as interest in me and it is condescending.

I can do quite well without Obama “keeping me”. If he looks out for my welfare any more than he has already, I’m going to lose more of my assets in addition to my health insurance. It is not negative “spin” to confirm that I strongly disagree with his redistributionist idea of charity. I consider it theft and it depends on his voters coveting my goods. Thats two comandments right there. Besides, my brother’s keeper is from the old testament, the Koran, and several others, but it is NOT from the new testament and a poor rationale for his discovering Jesus.

Go look it up yourself.

Sorry that you feel abused. I might point out that the two commandments you mention are also from the Old Testament. So are you saying that the Old Testament does not point to Jesus, the suffering servant in Isaiah for one example…It was by explanation of the Old Testament prophecies and the breaking of the bread that led the two on the road to Emmaus to recognize the risen Jesus. Last year I had a local minister point out to me that “We don’t go much by the Old Testament anymore” in a rebuttal of some comment I made in a mixed group of Catholics and non-Catholics. 🙂

I was listening to Kresta in the Afternoon (our own Al Kresta on Catholic Radio in Southeast Michigan) and he and a guest were commenting on Obama’s statement.

It was curious, they concluded, to use such a scriptural quote, considering its context. This was a line that Cain (sarcastically) said to God, in response to God’s inquiry (and no doubt the Almighty knew of Cain’s crime of murder) to the Almighty’s question to Cain.

Coinsidence? Or the smugness of Obama thinking he was clever in this scriptural reference?
