In the Dominican Republic, the feast of Our Lady of Altagracia (high grace) is celebrated both as a solemnity (on the local Church calendar) and as a civil holiday. I understand that it is also a holy day of obligation under particular law. My wife is Dominican and I am down here right now and will probably go to a vigil mass tonight. My Spanish isn’t great…does anyone know if it is possible to find the propers and readings anywhere in English? Or even in Spanish… no one seems to use hand missals here.

Perhaps your wife could call the Church rectory and ask what the readings will be, or you may bring a Bible and ask before Mass begins.

Regarding the liturgy of the hours, I’m sure the Dominican bishops conference has propers for the feast (this is a VERY big feast on the local Church calendar…a much bigger deal, culturally, than say the IC or the Assumption…Christianity here is said to have flourished under the watchful protection of the icon of Our Lady of Altagracia which has been on the island since circa 1500)…but I don’t know how I would get a hold of those short of buying the full local set of the LOTH. Is there a generic votive vespers in honour of Our Lady I could use? Anyone know?

Also looking for Mass propers for Our Lady of Altagracia in English. THANKS.
