Sorry for the uneducated question here, but can someone explain the history behind Mary’s title here? I understand the other ones like Lourdes and Guadalupe. But I can’t find any info on where this one originates.

This all started because as a newly reverted Catholic, I was shopping around for a small statue of Mary to have during my devotions and rosary time. I don’t at this time have any real understanding or connection to the various titles of Mary, but this one seemed to draw me close. So I just wanted to know.

Hello, jujubee.

I kept running into parishes with the title, articles on Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes, but precious little on Our Lady of Grace. I finally found information on the Eternal Word website.

Evidently, the statue of Our Lady of Grace has to do with the
apparitions of the Blessed Mother to Catherine Laboure,
of France.

I found this webpage, from EWTN, which may help.

I did not read the material, but the statue is apparently linked with
the Miraculous medal.

It is a verrrry long article, but I am hoping that the information
that you wish may be contained therein.
Or you might search under “miraculous medal” or
“Catherine Laboure,” to see if you can find a more brief
summary of the apparitions and their relation to the statue
of Our Lady of Grace.

There is a book that I found, as well, if that would be of interest.

I can remember my grandmother, after she became a widow,
walking to church in the morning. I would see her walking along,
driving on my way to work, and I’d say:
“C’mon, Gram, I’ll ride you.”
I knew that her heart was heavy, and when she got out of the
car, in front of church, she’d kind of pull herself up, and say:
“I think I’ll go and tell the Blessed Mother my troubles.”
Gram was born in 1895, sailed across the sea to get here,
and Our Lady was always with her, I think. She lived to be
age 94.

God bless you, jujubee, and may Mary walk with you, too,
on life’s journey.

If I may interject, Our Lady of Grace happens to be one of my favorite images of the Blessed Virgin. 😃

Are there other images of Mary that you appreciate,

I once saw a fresco of the Blessed Mother, that was
beautifully done. A look a majesty and strength shone out from
eyes full of intelligence and mercy.

Here was the woman “clothed with the sun,” who
knew that she was, eternally, the Mother of God,
Mother of Mercy.

She truly is the Seat of Wisdom.
House of Gold
Tower of Ivory
Mirror of justice
Cause of our joy

Tower of David
Ark of the covenant
Morning star

Yes, the title “Our Lady of Grace” does refer to the apparitions to St. Catherine Laboure.

I believe the title is connected to a specific apparition of Our Lady in which St. Catherine asked Our Blessed Mother… “What are the rays which emanate from your hands?”. And Our Lady replied… “They are the graces which no one asks for”. 😦

Our Blessed Mother wants to give those graces to all of us, her children. After I read the account of that specific apparition… I’m afraid that I became a little greedy. lol 😊 I ask her all the time for the graces which flow from her hands.

Through Our Blessed Mother… there exists an endless supply of graces for us! Ours, for the asking! God bless.

Several years ago, I was stunned when I heard that
the name “Veronica” is from the Greek, vera ikon,
“true image.” As the face of Christ was left on Veronica’s
cloth, leaving a true image of her Lord.

Of all of the apparitions of Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe
touches my heart. A few years ago, I made a little clay
figure of Our Lady of Guadalupe, then made a flexible mold
of the figure, and poured casts, to make copies.
I then painted them and made little shrines.

Some of the shrines I made from this wooden “furniture”
found in a craft store. One of these had little doors on it,
and it made a fine shrine, all painted, with cloth roses and
sprigs of cloth white flowers on the “floor” of this shrine, behind
Our Lady. This little shrine, below, was a simple thing to make
out of small pieces of wood, covered with decorative
wrapping paper.



People really liked them. They hardly cost anything to make,
and I enjoyed making them. I gave them away, and they brought happiness,
in the giving and in the receiving.

I love the title Theotokos, as well, BennyBoy89. 🙂

In my bedroom, I have a copy of the Orthodox icon of OUR LADY OF THE INEXHAUSTABLE CUP, which has special meanings for us recovered alcoholics.
 
Reen- what an awesome way to share the love of Christ with others by using the creativity that God has given you!
