Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find some information on Our Lady Of Guadalupe?

Also, does anyone know why the horn underneath Her? I understand why Mary is pictured crushing the head of the serpent but why an animal horn? Am I correct in thinking that it is an animal horn?

Pictures of Our Lady with a horn underneath:

Thanks.

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find some information on Our Lady Of Guadalupe?

Thanks.
Here is a good info site.

Cmt’s suggestion is a good website. There are also many, many books out there. And of course, this forum has many members who are devoted to her as well! I’d be happy to share the info I’ve gathered…

The object that you see as a horn is actually the moon, I believe (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). I believe it is because of this bible passage:

Rev 12: “And there appeared a great sign in heaven; a woman clothed with the Sun, and the Moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and screamed in the anguish of delivery.”

Yes, it is actually the moon.

The image shows the Lady surrounded by a sunburst. The sun was the greatest of the Aztec gods. By standing in front of the sun, Mary shows that she is greater than all their ancient gods. The moon represented the God of darkness and death to the Aztec’s. Standing with her foot treading on the moon is a sign that these powers have been defeated.

THANK YOU! I understand why Mary is pictured standing on the moon (as the moon is not the source of light but merely reflects the light from the sun Mary is not the source of grace but is the Channel through which God distributes His grace); I just must’ve been used to seeing Her pictured on a circular moon rather than a crescent moon.

A very big:thumbsup: “thank you” to cmt, for posting that link! I love that site, & it had been driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember the url.
I have now put it in my favorites! :yup:

The writings about Mary at Tepeyac are many. Many of them are not quite accurate. Some are copies of other writings. I have investigated Mary of Tepeyac and I wrote a 10 page paper of what I found. I do not wish to disabuse; but to inform of some of the little known writings. Attached is my paper.

It is cool that you can look into the paintings eyes with a magnifying glass and see the image upside down of St Juan Diego. Supposedly 🙂
