I was just wondering if anyone has been to the Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Easton, Pennsylvania before. I’ll be driving past it on a trip and plan to stop in for a Mass. Basically, what I was curious about was whether this Church has been heavily “latinized” or not. I’m going either way, so I’m just asking more out of curiosity of what to expect (having never been to a Maronite Church).

Also, aside from intinction and possible Aramaic, are there any other major differences I should be aware of? I have read somewhere that the sign of peace is a bit different…if so, how?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

I attended Divine Liturgies at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Cathedral in Brooklyn which is within walking distance of my college.

At the sign of peace the Priest celebrant passes it to the deacon the deacon passes it to the altar servers and then they pass it to the people pew by pew. They put their hands over your hands which should be palm to palm while you say peace to each other.

The Maronite Rite Church is in communion with Rome and is probably one of few sui juris churches that does not have an eastern orthodox counterpart.

Qadishat Aloho, Qadishat Haylthono, Qadishat Lomoyutho, Ithraham 'Aleyn!

I noticed you call it Divine Liturgy (and so does the website for your Church), but everywhere else I’ve read for Maronites it has been referred to as Mass. I know Mass comes from Latin, but is it normally Divine Liturgy or Mass for most Maronite Churches?

The sign of peace sounds interesting…almost like a group handshake.

In my very limited experience with Assyrian-Chaldean Holy Qurbana, also typically called “Mass”, the passing of the peace was done in a similar way. There is a YouTube showing this but I don’t recall where.

Just a small note: Divine Liturgy is not an official title the Maronites and/or the Syriac Catholic Church, Chaldeans and Syro Malankara Church use for the Sacred Liturgy. Qurbono or Mass are the official terms. The use of DL isstrictly speaking reserved forthe Byzantine Liturgies. It has incorrectly been used (Even by the Hierarchy) in classifying all Eastern Liturgies.
