Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In listening to this Sunday’s Scriptures in preparation for Mass and our Bible Study after Mass, I was so "struck by the beauty of “Light” – mentioned both in The First Reading (from Isaiah) and the Gospel (from Matthew).

I’m posting this icon of Our Lady of Fatima again because she appeared to the children as “full of Light” (how appropriate – for her who is full of Grace – full of His Light and Life and Love):
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
The title the iconographer gave is: “THE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF FÁTIMA: MYSTERY OF THE LIGHT THAT IS GOD”.

The second reading for Mass today, from 1 Corinthians also helps us to understand that the Light is Christ. He is shining through Mary, as He shines through His Holy Church of which Mary is the icon. St. Paul preaches “Christ, and Him Crucified.”

Yes, that is what St. Alphonsus Liguori also teaches in the Glories of Mary

He says that without devotion to Our Queen the world would be all darkness and chaos.

She is so helpful!

Thanks Brother Pat,

All the Saints tell us in different ways how faithfully our Mother brings Jesus to help us. The “Memorare” prayer ascribed to St. Bernard expresses this so well:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
Our Mother shines with His Light; and His Mercy comes to us through her.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us. Our Lady of Light, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, and Mother of Mercy, pray for us.

I am reminded of a prayer to be said before meditation or spiritual reading that I’ve learned along the way:

My God, I truly believe that Thou art here present, and I humbly adore Thee in union with the angels and saints. I am sorry for having sinned, because Thou art infinitely good and sin displeases Thee.

I love Thee above all things and with my whole heart. I offer Thee all that I am and all that I have – my soul with all its faculties, my body with all its senses.

Enlighten my understanding and inflame my will, that I may know and do what is pleasing to Thee. Our Lady of light, spouse of the Holy Ghost, pray for me.

Thanks so much for this beautiful prayer. It does express that desire God placed within us for Himself. We were created in Love, for Love, and one day in heaven when we are in complete and eternal union with God Who is Love – all our longing will be filled with Him!
