Hi I was wondering if you can tell my why there are so many our lady of … Grace,Fatima ,Lake , lourdes, camel etc and does it mean somthing are they all one person or separate people ? Why do we say it , what is it ? Anyway thanks for your help
For example, October 7th is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the 8th is the feast of Our Lady of Good Remedy.
Originally the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was entitled Our Lady of Victory, due to the famous victory in battle at Lepanto,
a story well worth reading from a good Catholic retelling of it.
And Our Lady of Good Remedy is in honor of Our Lady’s help in rescuing slaves from the Moslems.
Secular historians for the most part ignore as they ignore Christian suffering today, that over the centuries
millions of Christians have been kidnapped by Moslems to be made slaves.
In 1198 A.D., St. John de Matha founded the Order of the Holy Trinity for the Redemption of Captives to ransom Christian slaves from their captors. And to gain the funds necessary to pay, they turned to the Blessed Virgin under the title of Our Lady of Good Remedy. Her aid was very great – From the time of its foundation, until the year 1787, over 900,000 slaves were randomed by the Trinitarians.
There was also founded for this reason the Mercedarian Order, or the Order of Our Lady of Ransom, by St. Peter Nolasco, which ransomed 490,736 slaves between the 1218 and 1632.
The Mercedarians added to their three religious vows, a fourth: “To become a hostage if necessary in the hands of the infidels, if that is necessary for the deliverance of Christ’s faithful.” And many Mercedarians kept their vows even to martyrdom.
The are literally hundreds of titles honoring Our Lady’s various patronages.
Our Lady of Victory, Our Lady of Good Remedy, Our Lady of Good Success, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. . .
Catholics love to honor Our Lady, and the Blessed Virgin loves to help all.
