Our parish priest constantly refers to himself

There is nothing inherently wrong with the term “Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla”. It’s a quote from Mad Max 2 describing the leader of a rebel faction. Also the name of a WWE wrestler.

I’m pretty sure I heard the same joke name used by radio DJs or maybe on “WKRP in Cincinnati” back in the days when the Ayatollah was front page news.

In what context does the priest use the term?

Do you have some problem with him using the term?

The WWE’s Chris Jericho uses the term to refer to himself in that way, and the WWE is inclined to make these kind of phrases registered trademarks.

I don’t think that the WWE is likely to sue the church on this, however.

Really? He must be very good with young people. The things that our priests do to identify with the people.

I fail to see the problem. I am Facebook friends with several priests and they all joke around because you know, they’re human.

You’ve told us nothing about why you think this is a problem.
 
I first heard the term Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla in the Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge.
 
It dates, at least, from one of the Mel Gibson Mad Max movies.
 
If you priest used it at the consecration at mass, I’d say it was totally out of place. If, on the other hand, he uses it to make contact with the younger generation, and young kids see his as “cool,” kudos on him for finding a way to connect.
