I first heard the term Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla in the Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge.
Stitch Jones. The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla.
I saw the movie when it first came out, but I had heard the term a good many years before; in the 70’s.

I could swear Dr. Johnny Fever used it on WKRP but I have no idea of which episode or if I’m getting confused with some local DJ of that era.

Could be, or maybe Venus Fly Trap. Ayatollah was a word that wasn’t familiar until the Iran hostage crisis, in the late 70’s, so it fits that time frame.😉

When I was young at my parish the priest and the deacon had been part of a group of friends in highschool that included the Bishop. They had some rather colorful nicknames for eachother…which were shockingly irreverent when accidentally said in front of aforementioned confirmati.

I think it’s funny! It provides the priest with some color and humor.
