All living things have souls (animals, plants and humans) but only humans have immortal spiritual souls. When plants and animals die their souls die too.
There are no animals in Heaven despite what pet lovers would wish.
You may or may not be right. However, I will stand by what I have seen in AAA…IF we wish for our pets to be there…they will be. 🙂

I don’t have any patience with the animal rights folks & all that “Rainbow Bridge” stuff makes me queasy.I’ll go with Aquinas.
That said, God can do whatever He pleases in Heaven. If it please Him to include animals, He will.
I just don’t want to meet any of those chickens I’ve butchered at the rainbow Bridge, thank you…
Awww…so sorry you are queasy…maybe some Pepto might help. It always makes me wonder a bit about people who have such disdain for those of us who you call “animal rights folks.” I doubt if any of those “butchered” chickens would much want to be seeing you come over the Rainbow Bridge either.😃

I’ve noticed that people usually think in terms of their pets going to Heaven, as opposed to, say, sharks or wildebeasts. I’ve also noticed that folks seem to think that animals would get a free pass into Heaven.

If animals get into Heaven, then we will all be living in bliss forever with the 50 billion ka-zillion quintillion houseflies who have ever lived. And ants. And wasps. And then there are the larger species of noisome or dangerous animals that aren’t perceived as cute. If Fido gets in, so does this deadly Portuguese Man-O-War.

That was my thought, too.😃 How about the source of every entre we’ve ever consumed? That would be a pleasant eternity!

Here’s another thought: what makes a pet owner think that his pet is going to be snuggled up next to him in Heaven? If pets are included in the plan for eternal salvation, then they have their own souls and their own relationships with Christ, right? The idea that a creature with its own soul will go to Heaven simply as companionship for some other creature is a wee bit patronizing, isn’t it?

Is my wife going to be doing my laundry and cooking my meals in the afterlife? No? Then why should I expect my labrador retriever to fetch tennis balls when I feel like throwing them?

That could very well follow. However, I’m not sure that these beasts you enumerate strike their Creator as revolting, the way they do us. As I said before, one of the numerous ways we fall short of the glory of God is our failure to appreciate things such as, say, the Portuguese Man-O-War. (I won’t ask you to go hug one as penance.)

I don’t presume to know all the things that Heaven will or won’t contain. But that it might feature, in some unimaginable form or another, the flora and fauna that He so lovingly designed and with which He graced Eden … that doesn’t seem preposterous to me.

Well, as I’ve said twice or thrice already, the possibility that God’s creatures might persist in some form doesn’t necessarily imply a soul in the traditional theological senses of that word, nor relationships with Christ in the volitive human senses.

Of course, the idea of their doing so reminds me of a favourite old Far Side cartoon, set in Hell. The condemned souls are sweltering on a bench, and a retriever of some sort is curled up at its foot. One damned guy says to another: “HIS story? I dunno … I always just assumed he was a bad dog.”

I actually think the man-of-wars are cool(at a distance.)
I do agree that God can do whatever He wishes & is not limited by our reasoning or imagination. But neither can orthodox Christians create a theology separate from what He has revealed to us.Especially if it’s a belief based on sentimentality & to assuage our loss of a pet.

I doubt if they would, too.Especially if fried chicken was included in the Eternal Banquet…😉

I think people are referring to their own pets. Dogs, cats…parakeets… Now…I did have pet rats when I was a kid…much to my mother’s dismay…they might go to heaven too. Who is to say?😛

You have a problem with sentimentality? Why do other’s beliefs in this regard disturb you so much?
