Our priest said "No Gum"

It was so nice to see. Our priest, before the confession of faith stopped for a minute and said he noticed several people were chewing gum during mass. He asked that before receiving communion, that they please get rid of their gum. He said, “The Lord is more deserving of more than our Juicy Fruit.”
I wanted to run up their and high 5 him, but I kept my seat and prayed for the ignorant.👍

would of been nicer if he also stated that they broke the fast and should not bother coming up for communion:) …

HAHAHAHA, I am going to tell him that when I see him. Good one.😃
 
Actually he should have told them not to recieve. The fast is 2nd grade CCD level stuff. Catholics should at least know the very very very very very basic stuff.
 
Chewing gum is not proper at Mass anyway, but if it was sugarless gum, could they be said to be breaking the fast?
 
One day, I saw someone chomping on gum or something while coming up the aisle to receive Communion! :eek: I don’t think the priest saw it, but I wish he had!

It’s sad that they should have to say anything. I’ve known ever since I can remember that we should never chew gum or eat in church, much less during Mass.
 
I thought that gum, medicine(including cough drops) and water did not apply to the fast.

I know medicene does not break the fast, but I was told that gum did.

I HOPE caugh drops do not, since I did recieve Communion once after using caugh drops. I had a dreadful cold that day, and since I thought caugh drops were medicene, I still recieved.

I dont know why folks are always looking for a loop hole regarding this…or just dont understand it…it really is simple…

Apparently having the ability to look into people’s hearts and minds, you should be able to tell I’m not looking for a loop-hole (I don’t chew gum). I asked because if a person forgot (and I’m sure YOU would NEVER forget) to spit their gum out, but realized that they still had it in their mouth before Holy Communion, if it was gum that had sugar in it, they would, even though it was an accident, be obliged to refrain from communion, whereas if it didn’t have sugar or nutritional value, they might not (they aren’t swallowing anything, except saliva, which we do anyway). I believe I said that chewing gum was improper in church, but human beings being human beings…

Actaully I do not eat or drink for 1 1/2 hours before Mass…
If someone is eating or chewing food in line to recieve communion then they have broken the fast…should not be in line period!
Also let me clarify I did not think you where looking for a loophole…I ws speaking in general terms:)

I have read MANY of JKirkLVNV’s posts in the past and have always found his posts insightful. I simply wasn’t sure if he was being serious or not. But thanks for your reprimand just the same.
