I’m inclined to agree. But I think that the brief use of chewing gum in order to freshen the mouth before mass (promptly discarding the gum before entering the building) might be permissible without any disrespect toward the Holy Eucharist or one’s neighbors.Even if gum doesn’t break the Eucharistic fast, as Jimmy Akin states, I still think it is disrespectful to our Lord. I think my priest did the right thing by mentioning not to chew gum in church in our church bulletin.
