Our sun only last 5 billion years and question about Resurrection

In the 1980’s when I was an impressionable child…the scientists always warned of another ice age that was bound to happen. I used to worry sick over this…and of course the Soviet Union dropping a Nuclear bomb. In the summer I tried to dig a hole in the ground to make a bomb shelter…In the winter I constructed excellent igloos…

My children worry about global warming and terrorists. I always remind them how my horror predictions didn’t pan out…besides…global warming sounds better than ice age to me.

There are other possibilities/predictions that I have heard about our sun. Burn out is one of them, and so you have a parrallel scenario…either we’ll fry or freeze on two fronts…global warming/ice age…sun expanding/imploding…

The day meteorologists can predict the 10 day forecast with accuracy…well that’s the day I might decide to perk up my ears.

Just some thoughts to add here.
  1. I am not a 100% sure I would agree that God created science per say. Science is the study of the Natural World by man, so it is not so much a creation as it is man observing God’s world.
  2. The predictions of science should always be seen as Tentative. the current theory that the Sun is roughly 5 billion years old and has roughly 5 billion years to go is our best guess based on observations over the last 200 years or so. It is also our best guess that the Sun will turn into a red giant. Now we have good reasons for those guesses but we have to recognize that these theories could still be over turned.
  3. I think the resurrection of the Body will not involve the accidents of the matter that we have on this Earth in any way. Current hypothesis suggest that not only we will be turned to ash, but that ultimately, in the exceedingly remote future, long after the last red dwarf has grown cold, that the very basics of atoms will decay. Thus, the accidents of our material world probably will have very little in common with our bodies in the resurrection.
  4. In any case, doesn’t the Bible says that God will create a new heaven and a new earth? :).

I think we are already seeing the effects of an expanding sun.
Despite the desire of some to blame global warming on driving an SUV or speeding on the autobahn, it does little to explain the melting of polar ice caps on other planets!

That said, I believe we’ve been promised a new heaven and a new earth at the resurection. I’m guessing that we may at that point relly on the light of the Son instead of the light of the sun.

I have a question concerning about the life span of our sun. It has been proven through observation through science, that our yellow sun will not last and will turn into a Red Giant.

After a 5 Billion years, the earth will be consume by fire from the heat of the Red Giant. How can this co-exist with Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Resurrection. If suppose the Resurrection happen before the 5 billion years, and our sun expands, will we be consumed by fire?

How can we resurrect if our bodies will be turned into star dust? Perhaps, since God can stop nature he could probably halt Sun from turning into a Red Giant.

Any thoughts?

Other planets? There is exactly 1 other planet in our solar system that has polar ice caps and that is Mars. Those caps are part frozen CO2 and water ice. The CO2 melts annually but refreezes every year.

In any case, the sun is warmer now than it was 4.5 billion years ago at least that is what the theory suggests (roughly 30% brighter and warmer actually). However, it needs to be remembered that the change in the energy output of the sun is gradual and takes place over very long time frames. The difference in the average radiated solar energy over the entire history of the human race (including pre-history) is so small as to be not worth measuring. Further, scientists have been looking at the Sun a rather long time and have not noticed an increase in solar output that coincides with the start of the current warming trends.

God is greater than the Red Giant. That is really all you need to know.

I think the sun probably has a few billion more good years left before it begins to expand into a red giant.

If I were taking odds on which would happen first–the second coming of Christ or the earth being enveloped by the expanding sun, I’d have to go with the second coming.

In any case, the sun will outlast me, so I’m not going to worry too much about it.

I always thought that Jesus’ Second Coming would happen before the Sun would turn into a red giant…

It did just occur to me that CS Lewis had one of his professor types address this question, partly in the Sci Fi trilogy, more in detail in the Dark Shadow, an incomplete novel draft. I do not have your scientific background but as I understand it the argument (which was also applied to the notion of time-travel in the book) is that the law of conservation of matter means even if the entire earth (or presumably universe) was destroyed by cataclysmic event, the matter, the elements that formerly made up all the human bodies, animals, surface features, and planetary objectss, would still exist and therefore God could “reconstitute” the matter in any way shape or form he chooses, included re-creating the universe in a resurrected perfect way.
Caution could be derail *only read if interested in time travel therories"

Annie we were at Universal Studios with some friends, we went to the Terminator show which has 3 d live actors and quite cool. (Both friends are atheists and one (George) is also anti God, church of any kind. So I say to George “Well how did you like that” Now, George really is a happy go lucky guy, but he blasted me and yelled saying you know all this time travel stuff is crazy and why do they keep bringing it up then ranted about how wrong it is and mentioned some of what you said.

Then my hubby and the other one joked and asked the ole gee tell us how you really feel. Funny thing is I never reacted to his yelling, I whispered to my hubby later that strong of a reaction over something “fun” was obviously hiting a chord close to home or something with George. In the middle of his complicated rant of the finer details of why it couldnt be Gods name came up. I never did get mad back we just figured somehow it connects him with God and scares him or whatever. We are all still good friends we just dont bring up time travel 😃

Any thoughts? Annie or anyone? If theres something to it maybe a new thread?? 🙂 This is just one of those things I know is spiritual somehow, maybe it convicts George, but it sure gets a reaction from him God and time travel.

Uhhh…could you say it again clearly? I have no idea what you said.
