Does anyone subscribe to this newspaper? what do you like best about it? I first saw it free at a Parish I visited. I liked it so well I subscribed. The one I read and took home was the issue about the Catholic churches in Vietnam. Thank you for that. My husband is a vet and it so impressed him as he is not Catholic but felt the pain for the people lossing their Church buildings. He could see the injustice, it was a breakthrough in his feelings for the Church.
I borrow our Herald from some one and was thinking of buying that but decided to go with the Visitor for now as I can’t afford both. A lot of us pass the Herald around anyways.
I’ve been reading it for several months and I find it to be excellent. The articles are beautifully written and each week they come up with a variety interesting themes and features. The layout is attractive also. I’ve found something of high quality in every issue I’ve read so far. The writers are balanced, charitable, devoted and insightful – and best of all, they’re clear and orthodox in the faith and they don’t try to soften the more difficult aspects of Catholicism.
When I first realized how good that paper really is, I started getting worried about whether they would survive (the way newspapers are losing subscriptions these days).
OSV has been around a long time and I think it’s one of the greatest products of Catholic culture in the U.S. that we have anywhere today. That’s high praise, but seeing solid, clear and non-fuzzy (non-dissenting) Catholic ideas presented in an attractive way (that even non-Catholics would enjoy) is truly a great achievement.
I’ve read just about every Catholic paper and most of the popular magazines currently in print also, and many have good aspects but OSV is a notch above in terms of professionalism and calm, mature Catholic thought.
No – I don’t work for the paper.

But I would be happy to see their subscriptions increase.
