OUT OF WORK with few opportunities and no direction

I thought I should start reaching out about this problem.
I live in a small town with few opportunities. I get almost everywhere on foot or by bicycle. (The Better Half claims our only car as her own. She paid for it all by herself and has taken over service station maintenance and insists on being the only one to put gas into it.)

My 30+ year old university degree is not of any real use. My experience is in a couple of particular fields and is largely outdated.

Tonight I picked up an application form for a coffee and doughnut job. At 55 I find that I am competing with high school kids for work.

People try to help by asking ‘what are you passionate about?’. I haven’t an answer for that … at least not one that will bring in any income.

I have not been faithful in praying about this, so tonight I shall begin:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Amen.

O great St. Joseph, you were completely obedient to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Obtain for me the grace to know the state of life that God in His providence has chosen for me. Since my happiness on earth, and perhaps even my final happiness in heaven, depends on this choice, let me not be deceived in making it. Obtain for me the light to know God’s Will, to carry it out faithfully, and to choose the vocation which will lead me to a happy eternity.
Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, fulll of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art Thou
Amounst women and
Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb
Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother og God,
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of death

Amen

I’m sorry to hear of your struggles. Remembering you in my daily prayers. God bless! :console:

Including you in my daily prayers, Reginator; and entrusting you and your needs to Our Lord and to Our Blessed Mother:

Lord Jesus, King of Divine Mercy, we trust in You!

We take refuge under thy protection,
O Holy Mother of God;
despise not our prayers for Reginator
in his necessities,
but ever deliver him from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the necessities of life for Jesus and Mary. Look down with fatherly compassion upon the unemployed in their anxiety over their present inability to support their families. Please help them to find gainful employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from their hearts and that they are soon able to provide for those whom God has entrusted to their care. Help them to guard against bitterness and discouragement, so that they may emerge from this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

For Reginator who was helpful to me when I landed on CAF.
Prayer is from Post 1.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Dear Lord please hear our prayers for our dear faithful and loyal friend Reg who prays so hard for so many people each day. Please help him that he may find a job or source of income for him and his family. Lord in Your mercy hear our prayers Amen

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Breaks my heart to hear your trials and tribulations seeking employment. We as a nation have really lost sight of moral imperatives and ethical tenets in our business world…there are still some great companies and great employers out there…but they are “far and few between”…IMHO.

Turning to prayer for God’s help…is in itself a great grace from God…we are never inspired to pray through our own initiative…it’s always His grace that inspires us to pray to him…whether in daily prayer or prayer for specific intentions or problems or requests for others. God’s grace is always the "first mover? My point: you already have evidence that He is wanting to help you in a very specific way.

My daughter, with a degree also, could not get a job…then everything offered was a little above minimum wage (no medical insurance, etc.)…but never close to a living wage. (she is mid 30’s…never married/no children/lives alone in a very modest apt…drives a 10 yr old KIA Economy model for basic transportation)…she was not looking for a job of “title” or even a “college level starting salary”…just something that was meaningful (even service jobs that she could be a top notch professional and help customers) with a living wage. She eventually left our small city for a large city job( 600 miles from family members)…then the business downturn…then laid off…then much stress and “pounding the pavement” plus all the online applications in this larger city. It took four months to land a $10.hr job with no benefits…which landed her in MEDICAID just for normal female medical checks and preventive screenings/testings.

Then the Holy Spirit inspired us:…we (Pops, Mom, siblings, extended family, friends)…all prayed for help in active communion…eventually she (daughter) and I started praying the daily Rosary at this world-wide communion site…
**Come Pray The Rosary
**
comepraytherosary.org/
and joined the Rosary Confraternity and also prayed at this site…
**Rosary Center
Dominican Fathers
HEADQUARTERS OF
THE ROSARY CONFRATERNITY**
Things changed in just a few months…moved back to her hometown…got a basic Admin Job (low pay…no medical benefits)…but with opportunities for advancement…and now just two months into it…a promotion to be an office manager/executive assistant for a high level executive…college level salary with full benefits. Still not a “walk in the park”…but she now has an opportunity to use her gifts more fully and be compensated enough to live a modest lifestyle…with decent security prospects…be able to save for a retirement plan.

My point: join a active prayer group…in addition to us praying for you…praying in active communion with the faithful…is incredibly powerful. If the Rosary is not a personal devotion that you have…I recommend it…and if not the Rosary…find another devotional prayer group…for daily praying together…God does honor the “internet communion prayers of the faithful”…so that is my first recommendation…its easy to be in a large group…who always remember the intentions of the members.

We still pray the Daily Rosary…fell in love with the Meditations on the Mysteries of Christ and God’s Divine Plan…The Economy of Salvation.

For now…For you:

**Memorare
**
Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of thy Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy clemency hear and answer me.
Amen
.

Hope this is somewhat helpful…and will definitely keep you in my daily Rosary intentions.
