Loving God,

We lift our prayers and intentions today for The Reginator as he seeks your will and guidance for finding his dignity in work as he continues the journey of life. Please bless this situation and send your loving Holy Spirit to assist him in this search.

We pray in the name of your beloved son Jesus, the Good Shepherd of your people.

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries.

I live in a small town with few opportunities. I get almost everywhere on foot or by bicycle. (The Better Half claims our only car as her own. She paid for it all by herself and has taken over service station maintenance and insists on being the only one to put gas into it.)

My 30+ year old university degree is not of any real use. My experience is in a couple of particular fields and is largely outdated.

Tonight I picked up an application form for a coffee and doughnut job. At 55 I find that I am competing with high school kids for work.

People try to help by asking ‘what are you passionate about?’. I haven’t an answer for that … at least not one that will bring in any income.

I have not been faithful in praying about this, so tonight I shall begin:

Geez, Reg, I could have written your post myself. The useless degree, 57 yrs old, sickly; tried going back to school 2X and did miserably both times. I try to keep myself open to what the Holy Spirit might have in store for me, but so far, no luck. I guess we just keep on trying and praying. I love your prayer.

Some prayer requests are so similar that we might consider starting threads for specific topics.
Work, cancer, other common health problems, addiction problems, etc.
We could pray in general for all who suffer and we could ask for specific prayers from time to time.

I like this idea…people could then add the specifics of their situation to the more general threads and we could pray for more people that way…something like the perpetual prayer thread for priests where some do general prayers on that one and others mention specific priests.
