Is it safe to say that an outfit that one has a sexual fetish for represents a near occasion of sin? What if one has to wear that outfit for work or exercise?

Simple. It is the intent behind your actions that is key.

If you consider wearing certain clothing to be normal in some circumstances and sinful in others, then don’t use the clothing in a way that would enable you to be sinful.

So clearly, if you are a policeman and you wear your uniform for work as well as lascivious sinful reasons, restrict yourself to work reasons alone, since that is the necessary use for the clothing.

If however, you are using the clothing in a sexual way in the context of your marriage and with your spouse then provided the product of your bedroom shenanigans is open to the possibility of life then I don’t see how it’s anything other than fun with your spouse.

Remember that your activities need to be ordered towards the mutual love and comfort of your marital partner. Anything else and you risk perverting the activity into something it shouldn’t be.

I have one up for you. What if a certain body part (totally innocent) is a bit of a sexual fetish? Yes, it IS a near occasion for sin but you can’t force people to remove that particular body part.

This is going to sound weird but I have a real thing for male hands. Because I know this is a problem for me I make a conscious effort to avoid looking at male hands. So while they ARE a near occasion of sin I am doing all in my power to prevent anything from happening.

Now, the outfit in question. Do you mean an outfit you wear or that others will wear? If you have no control over whether or not you are exposed to the outfit then all you can do is do YOUR best to keep your thoughts in order. Pray. Pray. Pray.

If it is an outfit you /must/ wear. Then the above still applies. only wear it when you MUST and do all you can to keep your thoughts in order.

What if one wears a work uniform at work yet still has unwanted sexual arousal while wearing it during that time?

What makes you think that unwanted sexual arousal is itself sinful?

It happens quite naturally and frequently. There is no sin in it per se. The sin is in indulging in it (ie seeking sexual pleasure outside of marriage).

If one has a problem with such, that the sexual arousal leads them to commit masturbation, then yes it may be a near occasion and to be avoided. But if one does not have such a problem, and the arousal is unwanted and passes without sin, there is no issue.

Sexual arousal in itself is morally neutral - it is a natural gift and we can’t always avoid being aroused by things if they occur naturally, or despite ourselves.

To be perfectly honest, if I had a job that required me to wear a uniform and if that uniform made me feel ‘sexy’, then provided I didn’t actually DO anything immoral, then I would simply take it as an added bonus that the job I had allowed me to wear something that made me feel good about myself and made me feel attractive.

Of course if the uniform you are required to wear presents you with intolerable temptations no matter where you are and is actually causing you distress, then you should probably either seek another job that relieves you of the need to wear that uniform, or you should seek counselling about managing unwanted desires.

To my mind though, I would suggest you’re probably just being a little too scrupulous and too hard on yourself. Don’t overthink it. I’d venture to suggest that after some time has gone by and the job has got boring or repetitive, the uniform will cease to hold much in the way of attraction as it’ll become connected less with the ‘fetish’ and more with mundanity. That will take a lot of the frisson away.
