The beauty of Salvation and The Gospel of Christ is the simplicity therein. Im not saying God is simple and He is not a complex and awesome God, Im just saying we have one requirement in order to be a part of THE Church, not the CC, Im talking the Body of Christ, and that is to believe that Jesus died for us and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord. Our faith is God’s requirement. Complete trust in Him and His absolutely authoritative Word. It says in His Word that if we call upon the Name of The Lord we shall be saved. Im not discrediting sacraments or the tradition of men, they may be beautiful in the eyes of many, Im just saying those things are not what makes us a part of the Body of Christ.

I do not mean to be uncharitable so please take what I am about to say with that in mind. It could easily be argued that every statement in your post is nothing more than a “tradition of men.” If what you say about being a member of the body of Christ is “all there is to it,” then we can throw out all of scripture except for what you quoted. This simply won’t fly.

Belief in Jesus Christ means that we believe everything Jesus taught and commanded, and that we live accordingly by way of grace. That is the meaning of Christ’s “Lordship.” Likewise, Jesus instituted the seven sacraments. These are not traditions of men. Moreover, the capital “T” traditions of the church are not traditions of men. They come by way of scripture and they are the meaning and intent of the scriptures. These "T"raditions preserve the teachings of the apostles and refute unreliable interpretations of the scriptures.

Examine the scriptures carefully along with the teachings of the church and you will see the perfect harmony. Use the Catechism of the Catholic Church for this purpose. It is a great way of learning about Church teaching with the scriptural foundations and planks that support her doctrines. Likewise, continue to explore these forums. You will eventually see the beauty and truth within Christ’s body as it is preserved by His Church.

I’m pretty sure if you ask any truly practicing Catholic, they won’t tell you that they practice the sacraments just because they’re “beautiful”. And how exactly from the Scriptures do you know that you don’t need to be part of the Catholic Church?
 
You are right when you say its about a relationship with Jesus. The Eucharist is about becoming one with Christ and offering ourselves with him to GOD…a covenental relationship. To be sure our offering is pure, we have the sacrament of confession. The Catholic Church IS about relationship. Unfortunately many people including Catholics are yet to realize this. The stations of the cross are a wonderful way to meditate on the events in Jesus’ life. Have a great day.

If this were so, there would not be 33,000 competing Protestant denominations all teaching different things – all from the Bible.

It’s funny you say this because I converted to Catholicism and left my former faith (Methodism) BECAUSE of the complexity of the Catholic faith. My response to Protestant worship was “is this all there is?” The PowerPoint sermons, rock band performances, and comedic performances on the pulpit each Sunday left me spiritually dry. I was searching, searching, searching…I couldn’t believe the Lord had left such a weak message or legacy on Earth. And then I found the Catholic Church and discovered, through study, research, and prayer, that it was THE Church and the Body of Christ. I discovered that the true Body of Christ involved His presence in the Eucharist and in the traditions that have been passed down from the very beginning. I became angry at Protestantism for a while for denying the fullness of the faith to me. Before, I was just skipping rocks over the surface and now I’m fully emerged. Full life in Jesus is about so much more than just memorizing and spouting Holy Scripture at will. After all, before it was written Holy Scripture, it was oral tradition spoken through the apostles.
