Over-dressing for Weekday Mass/ First Class Feasts

I hate to be the one to start this thread, but it’s something that is bothering me, especially right now with it being a First Class Feast and having to get ready for Mass.

We’re having a Solemn High Mass tonight with Benediction to follow done by an FSSP priest. It’s not a holy day of obligation in my country, however. I’m relatively new to the whole EF daily Mass thing, and my conscience tells me I should dress as I would normally dress for Sunday Mass (skirt suit and blouse) out of respect, but the last two times I went to a Solemn High Mass on a First Class feast during the week I seemed over-dressed, as others were wearing jeans, jogging pants, runners, sweat shirts, t-shirts, etc.

I don’t like standing out, and I prefer to blend in, but my conscience tells me to keep dressing up. Am I over-doing it?

you wear what you normally wear to church on a weekday
let others wear what they normally wear to church on a weekday
for most people that is whatever clothing is appropriate for their other activities or work on that day.
and all of you can concentrate on honoring our Lady and ignore each others’s clothing. There is absolutely no reason for you to feel sensitive or out of place because you choose to wear your Sunday best, and no one can make you feel that way.

I think you’re fine, that doesn’t sound over dressed at all.

Whatever you decide to wear, wear it to honour God don’t think too much about what others might be doing.

btw, at my FSSP parish, people did dress up for the Solemn Mass on weekdays…I guess it depends on the parish.

I think you’re fine, that doesn’t sound over dressed at all.

I confess I wore my yoga pants to daily Mass once. I was in too much pain and unable to fit into anything other than my no restrictive “comfy pants” that day. I’m sure some of the women on this board can relate.

Find a long skirt with an elastic waist - you can’t get any more comfortable than wearing hardly anything but a piece of elastic around your waist, and there is no doubt of being properly dressed.

Best way to know you are dressing correctly – dress for Who is on the altar, not who is in the pews.

Theres no such thing as over dressing for mass

I go in a suit if I can, I do confess however that I used to go in a tracksuit before I became more traditional

I think it’s great to get to mass even when you’re in pain and I would never hold it against anyone if I saw someone wearing yoga pants or something, especially at a daily mass. It just bothers me when people obviously just being disrespectful and irreverent. For daily mass I try to look decent but it’s so early in the morning that it’s sometimes hard and I don’t think anyone else cares, it’s just so amazing to be there. God bless you!!

I think it’s great to get to mass even when you’re in pain and I would never hold it against anyone if I saw someone wearing yoga pants or something, especially at a daily mass. For daily mass I try to look decent but it’s so early in the morning that it’s sometimes hard and I don’t think anyone else cares, it’s just so amazing to be there. God bless you!!

I can only attend the evening daily Masses, but I also don’t own enough dress clothes to get me through without having to do laundry twice a week and iron clothes. I’m a full time student doing an internship, so I really don’t have time to iron twice a week (helpful time-saving fashion tip: if you wear a blazer, you really only have to iron your shirt collars ), or really do laundry. Days other than Friday I just don’t change after coming home from my internship. Fridays are my “day off” which really means paper-writing day. I try to put something together, but sometimes it doesn’t work as I plan.

I would definitly stand out by about a mile if I went to Mass in trousers!!!

Sorry to ask this. But what is considered as weekday clothing? I keep on dressing formal for the weekday mass… But I’m the only one… Any ideas?

I wear the same nice, appropriate, and modest clothing for Masses that take place during the week that are worn for Sunday Mass too. I don’t dress down just because Mass is during the week for a feast/holy day or because I wanted to attend a Daily Mass.

Exactly my point… God isn’t any less important during the week then on a Sunday rite?

Just because other people are under dressed doesn’t mean you should dress down too. A lot of people have to make time during a busy day for weekday mass and may not have the opportunity to change into something better. You are fortunate in that you can dress in a way you think is appropriate.
