I find myself thinking that the Amish life style is closer to the Christian ideal than any other.
Some individuals and families have chosen to “go back to the land”. Its no longer fashionable, as it was back in the 1970s, but have you considered doing something such as this?

I don’t mind going back to the land, as long as it’s got a decent house on it with a grocery store and Starbucks nearby.

A friend of mine, however, joined a ‘back to the land’ style of commune back in the late 1970’s, up in the mountains. All of those former hippies that are living there now however, are pretty rich, as the land has become more valuable, and now their houses are worth more than mine.

Yes. I don’t know that I have the will-power to follow through, but the idea of sheep farming in upstate NY appeals to me very much. I think most sheep farmers are actually hobby farmers, though. I would probably move forward on this but, there are other factors, such as my parents getting on in years, that have to be factored. The reason for this pipe dream is that I have recently been outsourced in my mid-50s from my systems programming job in the insurance sector.

I’m sorry to hear about your employment situation. I pray that it will not give you more than you can handle.
