Make sure you get plenty of healthy food and water. You might notice certain foods (maybe wheat or sugar) causes you to stress more easily. A food and exercise diary can be helpful to notice patterns of when you are more overwhelmed.

Make sure you get enough exercise and sleep each day.

Deep Breathing and Relaxation exercises can be helpful as a means of keeping yourself calm. This can be practiced several times a week. It can be implemented when experiencing being overwhelmed. You might find someone who teaches this style of relaxation. They may provide you with a CD that walks the listener through the breathing and relaxation.

Making a plan and schedule helps to keep you in control of your day so you are not overwhelmed when something unexpected or unwanted happens.

Keeping a realistic schedule for your day - not rushed - not over loaded is helpful.

Spending time outside is important.

Notice what your reaction normally is to being overwhelm. Is it a helpful reaction or does it sabotage yourself? Have a plan for what to do when you feel overwhelm.

I have been doing yoga for many years. Any sort of physical exercise can certainly help stress. I also run and lift weights. That helps too. Now, am I well balanced, well adjusted and happy all the time?

Nope. But I’m not as bad as I could be. 🙂
 
I talk to Our Good Lord Jesus. I also ask Our Blessed Mother Mary, the angels, saints & holy souls in Purgatory for help.

I also adore Our Good Lord Jesus online & spend time with Him if I cannot drop by at a Catholic Church at that moment in time to be with Our Good Lord Jesus.

I go to Holy Mass & receive Our Good Lord Jesus in Holy Communion.

I also confide in my trusted friend.

It depends. Some people do suffer from anxiety disorders that are medical in nature and should be treated on a medical level as well as spiritual.
 
Yes, see a Psychatrist to find out if you need medication. Be VERY sure to research what you are taking and ask questions if there is anything you don’t understand. Many of the medicines that are prescribed for anxiety have side-effects and are physically addictive even when used as directed.

For me, the recipe was the right medication + reading the New Testament + going to Mass. I have no doubt I have a chemical imbalance in my brain and the medication helps correct that…but I didn’t start to really overcome the disorder until I trusted in the power of God to see me through whatever the world, or my own brain, threw at me.

It is still an uphill battle at times since the brain can be conditioned to respond to certain triggers and create anxiety, where no real “danger” exists anymore. For instance, I had a very bad stomach. Eating most foods made me sick. Feeling sickness created panic attacks. Now, I am starting to work foods back into my diet, my stomach seems to have healed itself, but my brain still tells my body “NO STOP! This is going to hurt you!”

Always remember that God will give you the power to overcome this if you have faith. It probably won’t happen overnight, but in time you will receive the power to face the “demons” and beat them back. My prayers are with you.
