I do struggle with this and I do fly. Remember you have a much greater chance of dying in your bathtub or car than flying. The statistics are staggering. (google them) The next time you take a shower accordingly you should be 100 times more paralyzed with terror. You will realize instantly how crazy it is. That said, I never board an airplane without peace with God, just in case. Mind you, I think this should be how you enter the shower or freeway too - for the same reason. When God calls you he calls you. Nothing you fear or do will ever change that moment. Don’t let fear imprison you.
Good luck. I hope you make it to your home country - you should do it.

I discovered on my first flight after 9/11 that I had developed a phobia of flying. A few things help me. One, I watch the flight crew. No matter what the aircraft is doing, if the flight crew is up moving around, things are fine. Two, a sympathetic doctor gave me a Rx for a drug to calm me down, which helps. Three, I’ve discovered that I can have my acupuncturist place “ear balls” on two pressure points in each ear that significantly calm me down.
I will pray for you to overcome your fears. I know how debilitating they are- despite my coping mechanisms above, I rarely fly due to my fears.

Dear Father,
My heart and mind are flooded with fears.
Sometimes I am paralysed, I feel unable to go on.

My mother had a fear of flying, but it was really a fear of dying (and who does not have some natural fear of that?).
I have flown maybe two dozen times. I think everyone is confronted with the danger because it cannot be ignored – the instructions of the flight attendant, the seat belts, etc.
Last night, our priest talked about the 22-hour travel back to his home in Peru. It was not all in the air, there were stop-overs and delays.
My niece is WILD about traveling and can’t wait until her next destination. She’s a teacher and she took some students to England, France, and Spain. Then 5 days later, she was on her way to China for a 15-day trip including Beijing and Harpin. She’s taking some students to Panama (hasn’t she heard of the malaria US workers got when they were building the canal?)
Doesn’t it make you think about how much FAITH people have? Yes, this is not supernatural faith, but just faith in technology. Think about all the travel to and from Las Vegas – people can’t wait to get there.
