I have been plagued by sins of impurity for a year since my Baptism in 2015, which, by the grace of Our Lord, have been greatly subdued in the past weeks despite a recent resurgence. It appears that I am attempting to banish God away from my life by my tacit approval of sins instead of active combat against them, notwithstanding my acknowledgement for God’s infinite love and wish to follow Him, so that His intervention would not lead me to an unknown future. I seem to have a subconscious fear of approaching God, and that I lack the hope for Salvation as well as the resolution to lead a life free of sins.

I shall maintain my habit of daily Rosary, and I trust that God will amplify my whatever tiny desire for Goodness hidden in my will power, although it definitely takes ages for the effect to be manifested. I ask for prayers from you, dear brothers and sisters, so that my life would be totally restored to sanctity in the Love and Mercy of Jesus.

Are there similar stories of implicit aversion from God?

Fear of the Lord is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. this is a good thing. This gift of the Holy Spirit gives us the desire not to offend God, as well as the certainty that God will supply us the grace that we need in order to keep from offending Him. Our desire not to offend God is more than simply a sense of duty; like piety, the fear of the Lord arises out of love. You are on the right track. 🙂

From? No, toward maybe.

It is a matter of understanding, many often see God both in human context and with human eyes.

You can look at the forums here and see the many questions about the morality of what God does and see the posters adamant that God was wrong.

Notably, my 8 yr old is smart, straight A student. Yet if I tell him he cannot go over his one friend’s hous3 he thinks me unjust and himself righteous. He has been given a half a reason but sometimes can figure out how to sort of mostly negate the reason to his logical satisfaction.

Now mean Dad wobt let his 8 yr old play over there and doesnt let his friend take him places… sounds wrong.

What the 8 yr old doesn’t know is that the parents of his friend are heroin addicts and spend much of their drive time drunk.

But to the 8 yr old who thinks himself smart. Dad is unfair.

So humans do the same, “God should…”

Really? Should He??? Or maybe you are by comparison the 8 yr old and should not pressume to know better. If you don’t know better, than God is not mean any more than I am mean for not letting my son drive around with drunk drug addicts.

Anonymous 1995,
I am praying for you and will continue to keep you in prayer.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen…

Yes, I’ve done the same. I think it’s best to recall that the Bible says “be not afraid” SO MANY TIMES. Also, a devotion to Divine Mercy, as well as recalling that God’s presence is everywhere on earth (can’t escape Him now, right?:D), and visiting him in the Blessed Sacrament, and although God is omnipresent, particularly his body blood soul and divinity is present in the most humble way. Think of the humility of Jesus in the Eucharist. If you saw regular unconsecrated hosts, and the blessed sacrament, you’re senses wouldn’t be able to tell the difference!

Also try to examine your conscience more (the Examen), like every evening to get a better understanding of your spiritual life and to get a greater sensitivity to sin and for your conscience. It also helps a lot when you make the actual examination of conscience for sacramental confession

I think it could help to pray for trust in God, hope, and also a greater resolve to avoid sins. Trust and hope can also maybe help with the resolve, as they strengthen the soul 🙂

Anonymous1995, I’m sort of in the same boat. I find it hard to have contrition. I do a daily Divine Mercy Chaplet and also ask God to accept my patron Fathers’ intercession as chains linking me to Him. I ask them to keep on praying for me that I may not fall further. I keep on trying but it’s difficult.

I see that you’re still praying the Rosary; that’s very good. In my experience, Our Lady is 100% approachable. She will bring your issues to our Lord and will slowly, gently, and surely help you overcome your fear of approaching Him. Remember, also, that Jesus did not reproach St. Dismas, the “good thief” when he called Him directly by name, something even the apostles would not normally do.

I agree with going to Our Lady.

There’s nothing to fear with coming to God 🙂 as (I think) St John of Avila said, He did not turn away from those who were crucifying Him [but prayed “Father forgive them…”]…so would He turn away from one who wants to love Him, even if feebly? He wants us to LET Him in so He can give us greater love and strengthen us

The more we trust, the more graces we receive (Jesus to St Faustina)

I have the same fear.

I can’t approach God and ask him for things I need. Every time God gives a gift, there is a catch. God does not give unconditionally. “The more one is given, the more one is held responsible.”

I worry that if I ask God for something that the catch - the price I have to pay - will be too high.
